CraftingU is a curriculum that teaches students how to program computers. All they have to do is play Minecraft!

Quarantined Elementary School Students In Japan Are Holding Graduations On Minecraft

How cool is this!! You can't spread the virus through a computer!

[03/13/20]   Hey folks. We're still reeling from the news, but this seems like the time for a strong community response.

CraftingU will be making its curriculum free for the next month to any individuals/childcare spaces in Louisiana that need something for kids to learn. Our program uses the game Minecraft to teach computer programming skills to children ages 7-18. It can be downloaded and accessed remotely, and it can run on virtually any computer from the past decade or so (No Chromebooks - Sorry!). The students can run the curriculum largely independently, and an expert teacher is not required.

Whether you need something constructive for your own kids or you're trying to keep a group of them happy, CraftingU is happy to help in this time of crisis in any way we can. You can contact us here on Facebook, or send an email to [email protected] if interested. 03/03/2020

Laura Alderman: Economic prosperity brought to you by girls and 'raspberries'

CraftingU is honored to partner with Step Forward, the City of Shreveport, and others to help bridge the digital divide in our hometown. We've been hard at work designing a new curriculum for Shreveport community centers, and we can't wait to get started! Columnits argues girls and "raspberries" could create a smart city and bring opportunity to all.

We were very lucky to be able to work with Step Forward and Capital One in order to put laptops in the hands of the students that need them most. Step Forward gives back to the community in countless ways, and we are honored that we could be a small part of the amazing things they do.

50 students from Keithville Elementary and Middle School, Fair Park Preparatory Academy, and Broadmoor Middle Laboratory School were awarded personal laptops after completing the Crafting U curriculum at an end of school year ceremony on Thursday, May 9th. The laptops were provided by Step Forward with a grant from Capital One.

“The students were awarded for their progress in learning to code with a laptop that is theirs forever," said Billy Hanisee. "The two biggest problems facing students who might be capable of pursuing a technical education are access and awareness. These laptops, coupled with the curriculum solve both of those problems and enable students to pursue a career path they might otherwise have never even been exposed to.”

Thanks to Crafting U, Caddo Parish Schools, and Capital One for their support. 05/15/2019

Step Forward

It's officially Give for Good! Every hour today, we're highlighting one of the nearly 50 collaborative projects that Step Forward incubated.

Minecraft U is teaching kids to learn coding through gaming. Step Forward partnered with Twin Engine Labs (Now Ruby Shores) and Caddo Schools to develop a training curriculum, and then piloted the program in a summer camp setting. Training was delivered to 20 professionals, provided coding club after school to 43 students in Title 1 schools. Five students achieved coding proficiency and were awarded laptops for personal use.

We have another big announcement about Minecraft U coming in the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

Help us reach our fundraising goal today, so Step Forward can continue, improve, and expand our work! 05/06/2019
