The Southern University and A&M College Center for Social Research and The Southern University Office of Research and Strategic Initiatives were awarded funding by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to provide funding to the community for the purpose of achieving entrepreneurship, home ownership and educational attainment. The Office of Research and Strategic Initiatives will host the DCFS TANF Micro-Enterprise (MED) Program, while collaborating with its sister campuses, Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) and Southern University New Orleans (SUNO). Various resources of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Louisiana will be leveraged as assistance while contributing to the growth of TANF eligible participants. We're excited about the learning that is taking place here at Setting The Standard Barbering Academy. We are on hair coloring and today we learned about the difference between hair coloring (addition of artificial pigment) and lightening (removal of melanin/pigment). It's important that they know that bleaching is not coloring. We also learned about foils and panel placement!

Maintaining Relaxed Hair!

•Retouch every 6 to 8 weeks, overdue retouched may lead to breakage due to the difference of elasticity in new growth and previously relaxed hair.

•Shampoo at least twice with neutralizing shampoo to restore hair, PH, and remove all chemical residue.
*Neutralizing shampoo is not a daily shampoo*

•Always use a reconstructive conditioner directly
after relaxer service to restore and repair the bonds of the hair to help maintain the integrity of the hair strand, and restore moisture.

•Hair can become vulnerable during this process so choose style that doesn’t require vigorous styling.
