St. Mark's Cathedral School

Founded in 1953, St. Mark’s Cathedral School is an Episcopal school in Shreveport, LA, serving boys and girls from age two through eighth grade. St. Mark’s is a ministry of St. Mark’s Cathedral in the Episcopal Diocese of Western Louisiana.

Mission: The mission of St. Mark’s Cathedral School is to value the individual who comes to us, to help that student to realize his or her potential, and to foster a culture that reflects Christian values, intellectual curiosity, and a strong work ethic. Our goal is to develop a student who first feels self-confident educationally, socially, and spiritually, and can reach out to help others in our community.

Operating as usual

It’s a beautiful day to soak up the ☀️! Middle School students enjoyed some extra time outdoors during their first picnic and extended lunch period of the school year.

Dads, donuts, the drive-in, and disco music! What a delightful (and delicious way) for our preschool 4-year-olds to end “Dd” week. 🍩

Good-bye summer, hello fall! Our preschool 3-year-olds celebrate their annual Bye-Bye Beach Day with water play before the weather *hopefully* cools down. 😎🏖

We will always remember. 🇺🇸

How do our 2nd graders practice social distancing in the hallways? By walking like zombies! 💜

Sixth grade Christian Ed students are utilizing Minecraft for their projects on the Holy Land. We can't wait to see how their building progresses. 💜

1st grade musicians tickle the ivories. 🎹

Happy Labor Day, Lions! We hope you’re having a restful long weekend. 💜🦁

Sixth grade engineers test their paper ✈️ designs to see whose can travel the farthest distance.

Thank you, Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, for providing masks to our students and faculty! 😷

Kindergarten engineers learn about stability. 👀

Gummy worms or live worms? Our 2nd grade scientists had fun comparing the two as they learn all about living things. 💜

Calling all business owners! We want to support our family businesses that support St. Mark's. We are currently collecting submissions for our new online business directory, which will allow our community to easily browse St. Mark's family-owned businesses (current or former parents/grandparents, current faculty/staff, and alumni). Add your business by filling out this form: https://www.stmarksschool.com/nav-header-util/quicklinks/parent-resources/business-directory-form

Due to the approach of Hurricane Laura, St. Mark’s Cathedral School will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 27 and Friday, Aug. 28. St. Mark’s will NOT offer virtual learning these two days, given that many parents may lose power and/or internet service.

We will plan to resume school with all activities on Monday, Aug. 31. Preschool school pictures are rescheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Stay safe and see you soon!

Fifth graders "unraveled a mystery" for their summer reading projects. After reading a selection from The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, they presented three-paragraph book reports and "mystery boxes" containing artifacts and pictures relating to the books they read. 🕵️

"Art on a cart," brought to our students by Mrs. Rangel. As an increased health/safety measure, our enrichment teachers are visiting students in their homerooms instead of students sharing enrichment classroom spaces. 🎨

Sliding into the weekend. Happy Friday, Lions! 🤗💜

Yesterday we came together to worship as a community for our first virtual Family Chapel. The 6th grade participated in-person while the rest of our Lower and Middle School joined via Zoom. 💜🙏

Happy birthday, Dr. Carter! We had so much fun celebrating our wonderful Head of School today. 🥳

A picture is worth a thousand words. Eighth grade English students did a “close-read” of the painting The Surrender and wrote about its message.

One of our Preschool virtual students joined her classmates for art this morning. 🎨

Our 1st-8th grade students visited the Cathedral in staggered, five-minute increments to pray for the opening of school and recite the school prayer together. This year, one class will visit the Cathedral for Chapel every Thursday while everyone else watches it live streamed. 🙏💜

WELCOME BACK, LIONS!! School may look a little different this year, but we are so happy to be back. 💜🦁
