Today marks the second year that the nation will celebrate Juneteenth as a federal holiday. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863, it wasn’t until some 2,000 Union soldiers, many of whom were Black, stormed Galveston Bay, Texas on June 19, 1865, when the remaining 250,000 enslaved African-American people were emancipated.

While recognized by the African-American community for more than 150 years, June 19 — also known as Freedom Day — will now bear witness to America’s capacity to fulfill its promise of liberty and justice for all. This step is an important one, but we still have miles to go.

May this day serve as a proud reminder of who we are as a people and the intestinal fortitude that would not allow us to give up until the dignity of our collective personhood was recognized. Happy Juneteenth!

As a community and around the world, we can create a single voice that advocates for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of people with Down Syndrome. The 21st of March is World Down Syndrome Day, and people all over the world wear colorful and mismatched socks to celebrate. A special significance of March 21st, is that people with Down Syndrome have three copies of their 21st chromosome.

Arts & crafts is a great exercise for those with dementia. Arts & crafts gives you the freedom of expressing your mood or emotions; which can sometimes be difficult for those who suffer with dementia.

Arts & crafts can also help with muscle dexterity and fine motor skills all while having a fun time!

In honor of National Su***de Prevention Week 2021, we would like to flood social media with the message to keep going. Su***de is the 10th leading cause of death in the US. Last year, 47,511 lives were lost to su***de. Success ADHC wants to remind others to keep going and seek help.

We commend Congress for the bi-partisan legislation which formally recognizes the end of slavery and acknowledges the citizenship of people of the African diaspora who made significant contributions to the fabric of this nation. The commemoration of the Juneteenth holiday also lends credence to America’s self-proclamation as the “Land of the Free.”
