I certainly don't miss the cold and the heroine but I miss just about everything else. It is always fun to throw down my crew from even at 6 am. It is great to see the carryover from seated legless climbs on an 11' rope at home to regular climbs on a 19' rope. Constantly varied for the win. Again.

When was the last time you were a true beginner?

As kids we’re beginners at everything. We try things, fail at first, and try again. Slowly we get better — we learn how to ride bikes, how to swim, and how to tie our shoes.

Once you’re an adult it’s easy to avoid being a beginner. You get used to being competent, and pretty soon learning something new seems terrifying.

If you haven’t been a beginner lately, you may have forgotten that mastering a new skill is exhilarating. It fills you with pride and a feeling of possibility.

After you try something new, your brain starts to think — if I did that, what else can I do? Suddenly the world seems full of possibilities, not obstacles.

Here, you can be a beginner in a safe, supportive environment. You’ll learn at your own pace, but you’ll be encouraged to push yourself.

All you have to do is show up.

Is it better to be strong or have a good aerobic engine?

The answer is yes. Riot is the land of AND!

We are on a mission to build strong people who also have big engines.
And let’s be clear that strong is relative.

Basically we want you to be stronger. Stronger than you were last month. Maybe stronger than you have ever been. Stronger makes everything in life easier. We also want you to have a big engine.

And when we say engine we are talking about your aerobic capacity as well as your anaerobic capacity.

You should be able to sprint a couple of blocks for the bus if need be and also lead the way on a long hike with your friends.

We do this by lifting heavy stuff and mixing it up with a variety of other movements.

Rounds for time, interval training, in myriad configurations that serve to make us stronger while we improve our engine. We aren’t trying to be the strongest, the fastest or be able to go the longest.

We are intentionally developing as generalists. Pretty good at all of it. That’s the sweet spot. If your training isn’t covering all of the bases it might be time to mix things up a bit. Riot knows how to mix it up better than anyone.

B) Who would want to end up rolling around on the ground, sucking wind and want to do it again, day after day.

is 15 years old today! 15 years and I still love it. The people, the training, the process, all of it. Our sled workout was disrupted by soccer games but in true CrossFit fashion we adapted and fitness prevailed! And thr disruption was totally worth it when the most beautiful and cruel overheard statement drifted into our collective eardrums and completely derailed the workout for a minute "STOP BEING AN IDIOT TINA!!" Absolutely going on our 15 year shirts. 12 year old girls can be so mean. I am looking forward to 15 more. Super huge thank you to Trent Williamson] for taking care of my baby while I transitioned to a new role and a new state. And the myriad people along the way who added to the shared pool of awesomeness that Riot is now. Too many to name and I am grateful for all of them.
