We had a video call between Seattle ASP students and Ailanga students on March 15. Much of the discussion, as requested by the Ailanga students, was how countries were handling the COVID pandemic. This included the effects on schools (Ailanga classes are in person whereas most Seattle schools are on-line), testing, masks, and vaccines. We are hoping to have another call sometime in May.

Greetings all,

We had another wonderful day with our friends at Ailanga! We started our day attending church service at the Usa River cathedral where we sang 3 songs!!! Brian, we did you proud with our Hallelujah 😊
We had tea with Pastor Emmanuel & then went on to the Ailanga school where we toured the science labs and rooms. We had a fabulous lunch and visited with students.

We were fitted for your dresses and shirts. We should look pretty sharp next Sunday.

Tomorrow we are off to tour the Arusha National Park.

This form is more intended for outside members of the community -- if you attend one of our partner churches, look for a delegate who will be selling tickets in person over the next month! Please consider responding to this request. A clean and satisfaction that you are promoting a vibrant exchange of high school students from Seattle in Tanzania! Thanks so much.

The dreariness of Fall/Winter is upon us in Seattle, and you know what that means-- really muddy cars! Lucky for you, delegates will be selling Brown Bear Car Wash coupons for the next month or so for $7 or 3 for $20. Please comment on this post or private message us if you're interested, and we will put you in touch with a delegate!

We recently received an update from Lydia, the headmistress at Ailanga, and are thrilled to see that the lab is being put to good use!

"Last year the Contractor worked so hard to keep his promise so that Biology lab would be used for the National Exams and I am happy to report that he made it possible and the tables were ready, gas and water installations were done just a few days before the exams began."

Education cannot be taken for granted in Tanzania. All secondary school education requires a tuition payment that is set by the Tanzanian government. The current tuition payment is about $480, which includes room and board. This amount is an extreme hardship for many Tanzanian families who have an average annual income for a family of less than $300.

Ailanga Lutheran Junior Seminary has a student population
of over 400 students. In addition to the normal high school
curriculum, Ailanga Lutheran Junior Seminary provides
extensive biblical study for which students take a national
Bible exam.

Ailanga Lutheran Junior Seminary has a powerful name! It
comes from Isaiah 61:1 "Here comes the Light"... the
light referring both to Jesus and the light of Christian
education.
