Our 1st-4th grade students are hard at work with their actor's tools in Drama class! This week they are learning about IMPROV. Bullpups have done scenes with SCRIPTS, but now they are learning how to create lines of their own! Students of 3rd grade Chlorine class are demonstrating this through starting a scene, freezing as a tableaux, and then a new student is challenged to come up in order to create a completely new scene out of the same pose. We hope you enjoy this little glance into our classroom. What scene would you have created if you had to join our game of FREEZE? We hope you try this out at home with your friends and family too!

This morning our very own "Coffee King," parent Sohail Sial, brought his coffee cart to campus and provided beverages for our teachers and staff. Kindergarten held their Career Week last week, and many of our parents came to class and spoke about their careers. For the grand finale, firefighters from the Scottsdale Fire Department came to visit on Friday! Students learned about firefighting tools, the fire suit, and fire safety. They also had a chance to see the fire truck up close!

Our 4th grade students are divided into Harry Potter houses and earn points based on various core values criteria. As Prefects from the Harry Potter houses, these 4th grade students exemplify leadership, responsibility and scholarship. They model the BASIS way for all 4th grade students. These students are given added responsibilities around the school and special recognition for their efforts for a 2-week period. House Prefects from the past two weeks: Nicolas C. (Gryffindor), Sofia V. (Ravenclaw), Jessie W. (Hufflepuff), Carolynn P. (Slytherin). Kudos to these students!

They strive to follow the BASIS way and model for all 4th grade students. These students are given added responsibilities around the school and special recognition for their efforts for a 2 week period. We are so proud of Augustya G. (Slytherin), Ryan R. (Ravenclaw), Leo K. (Hufflepuff), and Mia D. (Gryffindor).

Hogwarts, here she comes! 3rd grade Potassium LET/4th grade Barium SET Ms. Castelli received her acceptance letter from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! Two of her 4th grade students, Julianna G. and Lincoln G., helped her open the letter today. All of our 4th grade students are divided into houses (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw) and compete each trimester to win the Harry Potter House Cup Challenge. Our upstairs billboard serves as a leaderboard.

4th Grade Scientists Unleash Curiosity on First Lab Day!
Excitement filled the air as our 4th grade scientists dove into their inaugural lab session. 4th Grade Science Subject Expert Teacher Ms. Solayappan ("Ms. A") taught them to measure masses, find the volume of different sized cardboard boxes, examine seeds through lenses, and measure warm/cold water temperatures. It was a day of discovery and fun!

Today we kicked off our Meet the Teachers events. Our admin team welcomed our first grade families this morning as they turned in their Back-to-School packets and received their Welcome packets. Parents followed a mock schedule to their students' classrooms, met their wonderful teachers, and heard an overview of the curriculum and routine. We look forward to seeing the rest of our families throughout the next few days. Thank you to everyone who attended, and we can't wait to start a new school year on Wednesday!

Yesterday we welcomed all of our teachers back for onsite training. Special thanks to Heather Curry and the Boosters for providing breakfast for everyone. We are excited for our students to return to campus next Wednesday for another enriching and fun year at BASIS Scottsdale Primary East, and we look forward to seeing everyone at our Meet the Teachers events!

We had so much fun seeing our returning, new, and prospective families at our Popping into 1st and 2nd grade event today! Our students ate popcorn, socialized, and painted their favorite summer activity on a canvas. A big thank you to the families that joined us today!

In the beginning of June, more than 500 families logged into our virtual information session to learn more about BASIS Charter Schools.
Attendees heard from three network leaders: BASIS Educational Ventures CEO Peter Bezanson, as well as BASIS Peoria Primary Head of School Heidi Bruce, and BASIS Scottsdale alumnus and U.S. Presidential Scholar recipient Rachana Gurudu. THROWBACK THURSDAY! 😎 We are remembering some of the fun school days we had last year!
Every year our students celebrate “Mime Week” in Ms. Kirkham’s Drama class. The art of pantomime is characterized by any dramatic presentation played without words, using only actions and gestures. The most common colors mimes wear are black and white, as shown in the photo featuring students in Ms. Grimland’s second grade Cobalt class. These are known as “classic colors” and are worn so that they have a neutral effect and make it easier to see the facial expressions.
