Sesame Street: Bessie and James Take Flight | Power of We Club

Sesame Street’s “The Power of We Club” celebrates James Banning and Bessie Coleman. They were the first African American man and woman to get their pilot’s license in the United States. Some people thought they shouldn’t learn to fly because of the color of their skin but that didn't stop them!

Sesame Street: Bessie and James Take Flight | Power of We Club The Power of We Club is celebrating Black History Month by hearing stories about amazing African Americans. Today, they are learning about James Banning and ...

This year, we are recognizing BHM and its Black Health and Wellness theme in a way that draws attention to some of the health challenges faced by the Black community and the systemic barriers that prevent equitable access to care.

Juice WRLD, a local legend whose meteoric rise to fame ended far too soon, is profiled by Children's Home and Aid for Black History Month. In this piece, we honor the life of this talented artist, while seizing the opportunity to learn and lead from his experience.

2022's Black History Month shone a much-needed light on the importance of Black Health and Wellness.

As we wrap up this important time of year, it is important to emphasize that many barriers to health equity still persist in Black and Brown communities, where obstacles to care are more prevalent than their white counterparts.

Child care relief funds have provided critical support for stabilizing child care programs and preventing

more permanent closures of programs during the pandemic, but this is just the beginning of what’s needed to recover and rebuild after decades of underfunding. Robust federal funding on a permanent basis will lead to significant long-term improvements. Congress must help states build upon the foundation for a better system they have started with relief funds. https://www.childcareaware.org/our-issues/advocacy/take-action/speak-up-child-care/

Math is all around us and the more we practice at home the more fun children have with it! Math skills can be learned doing every day activities! Check it out!

✨ Monday provocation ✨

Learning number names and repeating the sequence of number names to 10 (and eventually to 20 and more) is important mathematics learning. This prepares children to talk about quantities. Children learn to say the sequence of number names from 1 to 10, and eventually to 20 and beyond.

Encourage children to use number words and practice the sequence of number words. Connecting these words to the quantities they represent deepens children’s learning.

Connection and belonging are human needs.

In this week's blog, learn more about this important issue and read the powerful story of a grandmother who partnered with us to adopt her grandkids and provide them permanence and stability. Listening goes hand in hand with healing. Join us in raising awareness so children and youth in foster care are able to feel connected, supported, and thrive.

The Eagle Room preschoolers were so engaged the other day! So many skills are being learned while playing. Science happens when they explore tree bark, and fine motor skills are strengthened while playing with sand and marbles. The art experience that day was water color painting.
