Today the Eagle and Hummingbird classrooms celebrated the end of the school year by playing at, and having a picnic at the Schaumburg Sculpture Park down the street! We are always sad to say good bye to our out going kindergarten children and families but know they are going to have many more great adventures ahead of them! (Next week will be the Oriole and Falcon Room's turn).

One of our parent's shared this fun activity for preschool aged children; trace your hands, or your child's hands, on a piece of paper and draw in fingernails. Let your child color the fingernails in with crayons, markers, paint/paintbrushes, or non-toxic nail polish. This pretend manicure not only promotes eye/hand coordination, but if you're daring enough to let them paint your actual fingernails 😁, it can enhance the parent/child relationship.

The toddler classrooms had a busy day on Thursday. They painted a mural, made a special red, white & blue treat, rolled down a hill (again, and again, and again 😂), and finished the day with a picnic! It’s fun to be a toddler!

The Hummingbird Classroom is celebrating summer in the most colorful way! Tie-dye t-shirts are fun and easy to make! And are great for developing fine motor skills and discussing color mixing! Give us a 👍 if you know your primary colors, a ❤️ if you know your secondary colors and a 😆 if you know what a tertiary color is!

Learn more about Conscious Discipline:

We often use the terms "punishment" and "consequence" interchangeably, but they are not the same. Punishments don't teach a new, healthier skill to replace the challenging behavior. They rely on our judgment of the child's actions and don't ask the child to reflect or take personal responsibility. In fact, they demand that children feel the way we want them to feel about their behavior, rather than helping children feel their own feelings. Children often respond to punishments by blaming, defending, or deflecting rather than accepting responsibility. On the other hand, consequences encourage reflection and personal responsibility. They motivate children to use or learn a new behavioral skill and make more positive choices in the future.
