Operating as usual
This project proved to be interesting/challenging as there were major consolidation issues to tackle in addition to the normal chemical cleaning and restoring. The entire section is reserved for a future restoration campaign - so I needed to provide correction/repair to only the areas damaged without sacrificing the integrity of the entire scene.
Our latest cabinet refinishing project. Client was hesitant to use black, but with their contemporary decor and color scheme - it was the best decision. What a difference this color makes in their kitchen! Elegant, sleek and makes the tile look beautiful!
Have a blessed Christmas!!!
Sometimes, it takes a bit of strategy to tackle a unique restoration project. This one involved a large canvas with 3 religious Icons in the center that had multiple areas of damage due to cracked plaster underneath the mural. The original scope of the project involved complete removal of the canvas mural from its support for offsite restoration while the plaster repairs were done on the ceiling.
However, due to prior restorations, it was determined that the entire mural could not be removed intact as previous cuts had been made to repair damage. Since the icons themselves appeared most stable, I decided to remove them separately so that they could be repaired individually. This required detachment of three canvas icons from their plaster support for offsite restoration. The removal first involved tracing the original artwork onto architectural vellum (in the event of loss during detachment), creating flaps for plaster repair work underneath to be done. Icons were moved offsite to the studio for restoration. During that time, large ceiling cracks were repaired by an outside plaster company, so that I could dedicate all my effort to restoring these icons.
Icon Restoration - After adding a temporary lining to the facing of each icon, the canvas was flipped over in order to remove residual plaster and adhesive from the canvas backs, then re-impregnation of the unstable paint film was commenced, followed by re-lining the canvas icons on the back with a permanent lining for better stability. Next, the canvas was professionally cleaned, damage was repaired by in-filling voids and finally in-painting was done - all offsite. Once the on-site plaster repairs were completed, the canvas flaps, restored Icons were reattached and the remaining onsite restoration of the area was completed. The re-gilding of the icon crowns finalized the project.

Small Mural in kitchen behind range. Had to glaze the stone tiles for a more consistent overall color. Overall design was at clients request and a bit different from my normal realism style.
TBT - One of my first private commissions of fine art to restore. Old farm scene from 1918. Chemically cleaned, voids filled and repainted to match, varnished. Completed 2012
Private Restoration commission of unique Family Icon. Went through several chemical cleanings to recover the original artistic image of the Virgin Mary and Christ child. Discovered paint losses and flaking, tears, discolored varnish, accumulation of layers of soot, grime and dust compounded by prior restoration campaigns by non professionals leaving instability in the paint bond and substrate damage. No in-painting was done at this time to the areas of loss, but an isolation coat and conservation varnish were applied for reversibility and to allow for future conservation campaigns.

In addition to restoring Icons, I have been tasked with professionally cleaning these faux marble walls in the stairway leading to the choir room/organ balcony. As you can see, these walls showed years of carbon residue, dirt, grime and oxidation in the varnish layers - requiring removal to restore correctly. I chemically cleaned a small section today as a test area and really brought this finish back to life. After all walls are cleaned, I will reapply varnish to provide longevity for years to come. #churchrestoration #fauxmarble Patricia Cannata
Fireplace makeover - all stones were recolored, new hearth created and the mantle was refinished, beams stained. All completed before our current quarantine.
Recent kitchen refinishing project - from dark reddish orange to bright white (allover) and from chocolate to warm black (on island). Holes for hardware filled and redrilled to change location/style and all work sprayed on site. Thanks to April L. Hallwood and Joe Stein for your assistance on this small kitchen.
Here is another recent cabinet refinishing project. White allover color Cabinets and Bittersweet Chocolate color Island. There was additional work done on these cabinets as they were previously painted and had to be stripped completely prior to refinishing. With the help of my new husband (Carlo) we extended the cabinet height by removing the old crown, creating boxes for the tops, reinstalled the crown, added moulding and side panels to all of uppers. We also added some decorative mouldings to the wall behind the island and painted it all one color to make it stand out as a larger, single unit.
Here’s the first of two kitchens recently completed. From dark cherry to white, light gray island & stools. Even the table got a makeover to a charcoal color! Thanks April & Nicole for your help on this!
