Hello everyone!
I am pleased to announce that the first chapter meeting of 2017/18 will be on Monday Oct. 2nd during lunch in the P2 Classroom!
We will go a little more in depth about the organization and you have the chance to ask any other questions AND eat pizza! Please don't be shy, stop by for some fun. I can't wait to see all of you there!
Good morning Class of 2018 and 2019!

ATTN: FOOD AND DRINKS WILL BE AT THIS EVENT!!

It’s that time of year again!! Time for the annual SSHP clinical challenge. The clinical challenge, run by SSHP, is a great opportunity for students to expand their clinical knowledge with feedback from clinical faculty members AND to get FREE REGISTRATION to midyear! This year, Midyear will be held December 3rd-7th (dates that students will be attending is still TBD).

Class of 2018: If you decide to participate in the local SSHP competition, please keep in mind that if it interferes with APPE rotations, these hours must be excused by your preceptor and the hours must be made up, if applicable. Since the winning pair will receive free registration to the Midyear Clinical Meeting, if selected as the winner the time off for the conference will also have to be excused by your preceptor and made up at another time to complete the hours necessary for graduation.

• Who: Class of 2018 and Class of 2019
• What: ASHP Clinical Skills Competition
• Where: P2 Classroom (Room 201)
• When: Thursday, October 12, at 4pm!
• Why: Compete with your classmates by practicing your clinical skills, help to meet graduation cord requirements, & so you can win free registration to Midyear in Orlando, FL! (Equivalent to $325)
• How:
o Be a member of ASHP and ICHP (SSHP)
o Sign your team up on the google doc! Each team can consist of 2 students.
o Register by October 3rd for the competition!

Please keep in mind that the winning group must pay for their own travel expenses (flight and hotel) for the Midyear Clinical Meeting and the winning pair MUST be able to attend Midyear if participating in this event.

If you have any questions regarding the clinical skills competition or the Midyear Clinical Meeting, please reach out to Kim Zaleski ([email protected]), Patrick Tednes ([email protected]), or Dr. Covington ([email protected]).

Good luck & hope to see you there!
Kim, Patrick, Hayden, Mike, and Anna

Congratulations to APhA-ASP’s March Member of the Month, Karen Rodriguez from the class of 2023!

"I joined APhA-ASP because I saw this as an opportunity to get involved in my community. I am Hispanic, and I feel like being a part of APhA has helped me stay up to date with headlines and current events. I have learned so much about this career through this organization that I carry that knowledge with me to the Latino community as well.

My favorite part about APhA-ASP is that this organization has helped me feel a sense of belonging during this pandemic. It has been fun getting involved as a volunteer for clinics, participating in organization discussions, and learning about my future role as a pharmacist.

My goals after pharmacy school are still uncertain. I am looking forward to becoming more involved as I develop on my networking skills. But what a better way to do so than by joining APhA-ASP! It has been a perfect way for me to make those essential connections for the future!" - Karen

Today Marks the end of Women’s History Month!

Roosevelt’s Operation Women’s Health at APhA-ASP Chapter hosted a variety of events to celebrate this month including a movie night event where members watched “Period. End of Sentence” and discussed the stigma of women’s health in an engaging discussion.

In addition, a fundraiser event was held to send donations to WINGS Domestic Abuse Shelter in the form of a competition between the pharmacy classes. Finally, a live health presentation will be held at the WINGS shelter by our pharmacy students.

Happy Women’s History Month!

Please join us in congratulating third-year PharmD student and APhA-ASP’s February Member of the Month Dionna James-Jones for her outstanding work as Women’s Health Chair.

Congratulations Dionna!

"I joined APhA-ASP for its community and its efforts to give back to the community. I personally believe in community service, and this organization does that in many ways - educating, programming, discussions, and more. I am also able to network and learn about different aspects of pharmacy that I may not have known about before.

These opportunities to be able to interact and communicate with others in the field have helped shape my future career goals. I don’t exactly know what I want to do after pharmacy school, but I do plan on taking as many opportunities as I can and becoming the best pharmacist I can be to my community. Never becoming too comfortable or complacent!” -Dionna
