I know this much is true… or is it?

Our mind is one of the most amazing aspects of the human organism. While its mere existence is due to nature, its beliefs are shaped by nurture.

From the day we are born, our minds begin to be shaped by that and those that surround us. It is through exposure that we convert experiences into beliefs. The beliefs that we have today were at one point experiences that we or those around us were exposed to at any given point in our lives.

EXERCISE
I encourage you to:
1. Take time to write down the beliefs you hold onto strongly. (ie. living without a life partner is perfect, friends are optional and not a necessity, etc.).
2. Once written down , ask yourself these questions:
– Is it my belief or someone else’s?
– If it is mine, what experience made it so?
– If it’s someone else’s, why do I hold onto it?
– Is it logical?
– Does the belief align with who I am today/will be tomorrow?
– Do I need to hold onto this belief?
3. Be honest and kind to yourself as you write and answer these questions about your beliefs.
4. Give yourself time to reflect on and meditate on steps 2 and 3.
5. Release, the beliefs and the emotions they come with, which no longer serve you nor your journey.

One part of our journey in this lifetime is one of learning and unlearning. It is up to us, as evolving beings, to question and validate the beliefs we hold for these beliefs shape us and affect our everyday actions and interactions.

Happy learning and unlearning!

Next week’s focus: The body

02/04/2015

Check your daily & weekly schedule and ask yourself: what is the purpose of all that I am doing? The fuller your schedule is, the less
time you have for your soul.
