For those of you in this class of '84 who crossed paths with Bill Ames, graphic arts teacher, swim coach, and more... he passed away peacefully on Monday morning. He suffered from Lewy Body Dementia at the end. I know he cared a great deal about his students, fellow staff, and friends.
I am trying to find Donna Lee from class of 84? Does anyone know how I can get hold of her?
Okay, La Jolla High School swim (and graphic arts) alums (1980-??), I have a plea to you. Mr Ames celebrated his 75th with a party today. A number of people were there, including some of the coaches and teachers - Rick and Vicky Evelyth, Huddleston, Wally/Walter Stewart, Mr Clark, and I know I'm missing some.
Anyway, Bill has had Parkinson's for 2-3 years and perhaps dementia is setting in. He still remembers many names and stories from "back in the day", especially the 80's and into the 90's. I gave him the Facebook messages you posted today. I'm not sure where to go with this but I'd like to reach out to as many of you as possible who remember Mr Ames as one of your high school swim coaches (and/or graphic arts teacher). One way or another I'd love be able to put together a collection of short memories or even just well-wishes. He always cared a LOT about his students in the classroom and got special enjoyment out of coaching. He would be very touched by this.
I have very few FB connections from back in the day and I'm connected to no one who started at LJHS in the fall of 1984 and beyond.
So, 2 requests... a plea really:
1. Could you reach out to ANY of your contacts who were connected to the LJHS swim team or graphic arts classes from that time? Either put them in touch with me through FB or just pass this on to them.
2. Could anyone who has been connected to Mr Ames write something that they remember from those times. Any length is fine. If you just want to wish him well or say "thanks", that works too! Then get whatever you write back to me. It can be a FB message or a reply to this post or whatever.

UPDATE: LJHS 1984 - 30 year reunion THIS SUMMER
This summer it's 30yrs since we graduated LJHS. I'm sure most of you feel like it was 10 yrs ago, and look like it was only 15 years ago. A few folks are interested in getting together, one weekend this summer, probably for a casual Friday get together and for a more structured Saturday party. Planning is still in the early stages, and we need your input and help. Here are a few thoughts...
