The Human Resources Division would like to congratulate and extend a warm welcome to Mr. Harry ‘Doc’ Ervin!

https://sbcusd.com/news/what_s_new/sbcusd_names_harry_doc_ervin_as_superintendent

The San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Harry “Doc” Ervin as Superintendent during today’s Board of Education meeting. Ervin will assume the leadership post on July 1, officially filling the seat vacated by Dr. Dale Marsden.

“The Board of Education listened closely to our SBCUSD community about the qualities we should look for in a new superintendent, and Doc Ervin stood out for his passionate commitment to equity and excellence,” said Board President Gwen Dowdy-Rodgers. “We are confident we have found a transformational leader as his experience at all levels of the educational system will help us effectively navigate the opportunities and challenges that come as we recover and grow from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Ervin, who is fluent in English and Spanish, has dedicated his career to bringing equity and access to economically disadvantaged students from culturally diverse backgrounds, setting high expectations for their success. He brings more than 25 years of experience in education as a classroom teacher, school principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent in districts across the state, serving areas that include Kern County, Monterey County, Los Angeles County, and San Bernardino County.

Ervin is a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies and Master of Science in Education Administration from Alliant International University and his Administrative Credential from California State University, Fullerton. He is married with three sons and one daughter.

The SBCUSD Board of Education will formally approve Ervin’s contract at its April 6 meeting. Between now and July 1, Ervin will work with now Interim Superintendent Dr. Harold Vollkommer to ensure a smooth transition.

San Bernardino County has a health order calling for everyone to wear face coverings while out in public. A bandana or handkerchief will work just fine.

Your cloth face covering should:
✔Reach above the nose, below the chin, and completely cover the mouth and nostrils
✔Fit snugly against the sides of the face
✔Be made of multiple layers of fabric that you can still breathe through
✔Be able to be laundered and machine dried without damaging the material or shape

Do not buy surgical masks to use as a face covering. Those are intended for healthcare workers and first responders. Many items you may already have in your home can be used to create face coverings.

Try creating a cloth face covering using bandanas, ski masks, washable napkins, or dish towels.

Learn more at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover.html

Wearing a cloth face covering CORRECTLY can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 to others. When you go out on essential trips, follow these “do’s”. If you have a child, remember those under age 2 should not wear a face covering.

⚠️ please be advised ⚠️

Good evening, the San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) Board of Education held an emergency meeting today following the announcement by Gov. Newsom and State Superintendent Thurmond for California school campuses to remain closed for the remainder of the school year.

Consistent with all other school superintendents in San Bernardino County, the SBCUSD school board approved a decision to keep all school campuses closed, and to move forward with distance learning to ensure a continuity of instruction for SBCUSD students.

Again, all SBCUSD school campuses will remain closed through the end of the school year, and we will transition to a distance learning platform for all students. We will continue to keep our families and employees informed as we learn new information, and we appreciate your support and patience as we navigate this unique situation together.

========
