The Juneteenth Independence Day Act commemorates the end of chattel slavery in the United States.
This day represents the moment on June 19th, 1865, where Major General Gordon Granger issued a general order in Galveston, Texas, that said all slaves in the state were freed, based on President Lincolnβs Emancipation Proclamation of January 1st, 1863.

"I am inspired by the mission here [at Learn4Life], because it sees every young person, every graduate here, as an individual with different life experiences and different pathways."
Thank you, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, for your inspiring speech to our recent graduates!
"I think we oughta be merging academics and real-world workforce experience in a way that turns more young people on to the relevance of this education and what it might mean to their lives in the future." -Sacramento Mayor, Darrell Steinberg
Sacramento Mayor Darell Steinberg had some inspiring words for our recent graduates:
"Look at today. You have all of these adults looking at you and celebrating you. And not only celebrating you but seeing your immense strengths. Because they have witnessed your journey and seen what you have both overcome and accomplished to get yourself to today. But here is the challenge in life." he continues on.
"If you remember nothing else about this boring speech, remember this - Try to see yourselfβ the way that other people see youβ."

Did you know that Fidgets are Tools not Toys? π€― One of our Learn4Life teachers created a personalized learning center at each table for students!
Fidget tools can help students cope with various challenges by providing sensory input that aids in focus, self-regulation, and stress relief. Here are several ways in which fidget tools are beneficial:
1. **Improved Focus and Attention**: For students with ADHD or other attention disorders, fidget tools can provide a manageable level of sensory input that helps them concentrate better on tasks. The repetitive motion or tactile stimulation helps filter out excess stimuli, enabling them to maintain attention on their work.
2. **Stress and Anxiety Reduction**: Fidgeting can be a natural response to anxiety. Having a designated tool to fidget with can channel this behavior productively, helping students manage their stress. The sensory feedback from these tools can be calming and grounding.
3. **Enhanced Self-Regulation**: Fidget tools can assist students in managing their impulses and maintaining self-control. This is particularly beneficial in classroom settings where sitting still and remaining quiet is expected. By providing a physical outlet

When Angelina, 18, thinks about her childhood, there are no fond memories for her. She was brought up in an unstable home environment, where sometimes there was no food in the house or electricity. Her family was homeless for two months, living in motels, and the stress on the family emerged in yelling and violence. As a shy child, she recalls being scared to go to school.
She was in foster care throughout her teens, going in and out of various homes and separated from her siblings. And then her aunt told her about Learn4Life's Marconi Learning Academy.
"Coming to this school was like a safe place for me. It blocked out all the pain that i was feeling," she explained. "The environment is very positive, and the teachers are so supportive. It is just a fun environment to be in."
Learn4Life's flexible schedule was ideal for her situation. She was able to take care of her little brother and get to her counseling appointments. The small group instruction fit Angelina's learning style and regular one-on-one tutoring helped her stay on track to graduate.
