I hope this post is acceptable on this site. Looking for a group of 2nd grade Nisd teachers who’d like to collaborate on Schoology lessons. Our team spends hours creating lessons for each subject area that include rigor and small group and would love to join forces to put all of our ideas together. I’ve set up an NISD google share drive we could all use.
Kid got suspended for sharing a picture. Now the virus is spreading.

So the district has added 15 per day. (uncompensated). Now my school is saying, when we have duty, it begins at 7:30, not the 8 as it was. Any guidance on what’s allowed?
Do you have the you tube link from the Board Meeting?
President Wanda Longoria will be on the Channel 4 newscast @ 5 o'clock and 6 o'clock.
Why does NISD need full access to all my medical info for a year for me to be approved for at home teaching. They want access to everything for their own review. I am not comfortable with NISD trying to replace my doctor or feeling like they can second guess my doctor.
Regarding the extra 15 minutes per day:

In the recording of the Board meeting, Dr. Woods gave 3 reasons for the extra time (~43:00)

1) learning loss from Spring
2) protocols w/the time needed to get safely in the building
3) account from future disruptions

The district newsletter states that: • An additional 15 minutes will be added to each school day to provide for enhanced safety protocols.

Where does the extra learning come in?

It seems like the district got the board to approve it based on learning, but did a bait and switch, to get it to be just safety protocols, which will expose us to more risks of COVID, besides being uncompensated.

Any clarification is appreciated. Thank you for posting the video recap.
Since the 1950's Arkansas has not experienced this type of activism for justice. Union brothers and sisters across our nation are using their voices and strongly challenging the privatization of public schools and for rights in the workplace.

Excerpt from article:
"In a significant break from the 1950s, unionized educators are
fighting together against the impositions of billionaire-backed
politicians trying to privatize public schools through charters. As in so many other states across the country, this offensive against the labor movement, public education, and working-class communities is being directly funded by billionaires."

Look at what came in the mail for Northside AFT! 🏆

Texas AFT convened its 30th biennial virtual convention on June 25, 2021. With the theme “We Fight, We Win”, speakers and updates from across our state highlighted the challenges of the past year (both pandemic and political) and the hard-won organized victories by our members and leaders.

In spite of the pandemic, several local unions won awards for growing membership in their districts, for creating and leading city wide coalitions to ensure safety in schools, and for increasing donations to their political action funds through COPE.

Congratulations to Northside AFT members leaders, and community partners! You make our union strong!!!

District COVID letters are only being sent out once a week, and most say individuals and don’t give a number of actual cases. We must be transparent with our community as we fight this pandemic together. Numbers should be reported to staff, students, parents and the community, and individuals deemed as close contacts should be quarantined. If we want our schools to stay open we must work together to stop the spread of COVID-19. #wearamask #stillnotsafe 😷😷😷 #getvaccinatedtobeprotected

THIS LABOR DAY WEEKEND, THANK A UNION MEMBER!!!
The majority of American workers credit labor unions for many of the benefits they receive through Collective Bargaining.
“Union workers empowered by the freedom to negotiate with employers do better on every single economic benchmark,” said our recently departed AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka.
“Union workers earn substantially more money, union contracts help achieve equal pay and protection from discrimination, union workplaces are safer, and union workers have better access to health care and a pension.”
And with Liz Shuler now at the helm of the AFLCIO, we will continue fighting for the future prosperity and progress to improve the lives of workers and families.

🚨🚨Action needed TODAY!
We're all worried about students and employees right now. Positive COVID-19 student cases are at an all-time high in Texas schools.
Today the House Public Education Committee will hear two bills about masking in public schools. We need to show educator support for safe schools and local control in fighting COVID-19.
HB 164 (Dutton) would give control over masking decisions to school boards. On the other hand, HB 141 (Leach) would bar any district from imposing mask requirements for students.
Can you help us by submitting public comments on these bills? Tell the House committee members they should SUPPORT HB 164 and OPPOSE HB 141 for the safety of our students, employees and communities.
How You Can Help
Visit the Texas House public comments online portal.
In the Bills and Topics list, look for HB 164 and HB 141 under the Aug. 30 Public Education Committee list.
Write and submit a public comment on both bills (support HB 164, oppose 141).
The window for public comments closes at the end of the Public Education hearing TODAY. That hearing starts at 4 p.m. CT, so get your comments in now! https://comments.house.texas.gov/home?link_id=4&can_id=c148eec6ce4f5e623745c45109533538&source=email-teachthetruth-action-alert&email_referrer=email_1274548&email_subject=action-alert-masking-bills-in-the-legislature

We are proud to have our NAFT President, Wanda Longoria, serve on the Executive Board for San Antonio AFL-CIO. #UnionStrong

Thrilled to join the brothers and sisters of our local unions this morning to kick off some early Labor Day festivities.

Though I appreciated serving as the breakfast's keynote speaker, I especially enjoyed the opportunity to swear in the San Antonio AFL-CIO's incoming Executive Board.

As we approach Labor Day, be sure to thank a union!
