I hope this post is acceptable on this site. Looking for a group of 2nd grade Nisd teachers who’d like to collaborate on Schoology lessons. Our team spends hours creating lessons for each subject area that include rigor and small group and would love to join forces to put all of our ideas together. I’ve set up an NISD google share drive we could all use.
Kid got suspended for sharing a picture. Now the virus is spreading.

So the district has added 15 per day. (uncompensated). Now my school is saying, when we have duty, it begins at 7:30, not the 8 as it was. Any guidance on what’s allowed?
Do you have the you tube link from the Board Meeting?
President Wanda Longoria will be on the Channel 4 newscast @ 5 o'clock and 6 o'clock.
Why does NISD need full access to all my medical info for a year for me to be approved for at home teaching. They want access to everything for their own review. I am not comfortable with NISD trying to replace my doctor or feeling like they can second guess my doctor.
Regarding the extra 15 minutes per day:

In the recording of the Board meeting, Dr. Woods gave 3 reasons for the extra time (~43:00)

1) learning loss from Spring
2) protocols w/the time needed to get safely in the building
3) account from future disruptions

The district newsletter states that: • An additional 15 minutes will be added to each school day to provide for enhanced safety protocols.

Where does the extra learning come in?

It seems like the district got the board to approve it based on learning, but did a bait and switch, to get it to be just safety protocols, which will expose us to more risks of COVID, besides being uncompensated.

Any clarification is appreciated. Thank you for posting the video recap.
Since the 1950's Arkansas has not experienced this type of activism for justice. Union brothers and sisters across our nation are using their voices and strongly challenging the privatization of public schools and for rights in the workplace.

"In a significant break from the 1950s, unionized educators are
fighting together against the impositions of billionaire-backed
politicians trying to privatize public schools through charters. As in so many other states across the country, this offensive against the labor movement, public education, and working-class communities is being directly funded by billionaires."

🚨 2 Ways to Help Kill HB 3731 🚨

No. 1: Tweet Against #HB3731

TEA doesn't need any faster track to take over school districts, and our students, teachers, and schools don't need any further consequences from STAAR. Use this link to send a tweet today.

Draft tweet from Texas A-F-T that reads, "I want to Hashtag Stop STAAR, not give it even more weight! I ask Hashtag T-X Lege lawmakers to vote no on Hashtag H-B 3731, which would expand the definition of "unacceptable" school ratings — all based on STAAR scores.

HB 3270 is the newest threat to your neighborhood school

🚨🚨🚨TAKE ACTION TODAY! As if public schools needed more to worry about, some in the Legislature want to make it easier for the state to take over a school district.

House Bill 3270 gives an ENORMOUS amount of authority to a single unelected official (the commissioner of education) to override the will of thousands of voters by taking over an elected school board. Public schools should be governed by boards elected in your local community, not a bureaucrat in Austin.

HB 1348 is one bill in an attempted charter school power grab, and it's getting a vote in the Legislature on Wednesday.

This "charter school equity" bill is actually a "charter school advantage" bill that exempts these privately run schools from zoning and compliance requirements in small towns.

We welcome Mary Uribe to our team.

We welcome Mary Uribe to our team.

[05/02/21]   Northside AFT is honored to have worked with the Kevin Escobar and Irma Duran campaigns this election cycle. The respectful manner in which they ran their campaigns is to be highly commended. They both ran on the ability to bring more employee voice, transparency, and community collaboration to the district and we know they will continue to work towards these goals.

During the election campaign, Northside AFT volunteers spoke to many constituents across our district who believed that our public schools belong to the public through input in district decisions. We thank them for their commitment through voting. We also thank the students, parents, community members and our Northside AFT members, who volunteered, canvassed, phone banked, prepared mailers, attended our election virtual town hall event, and who shared the campaigns’ message with their friends, family and colleagues. Everyone who worked on these campaigns should be proud to have been part of the good work being done to try to include the community in district decisions.

Congratulations to Karen Freeman, Corinne Saldana, and Dr. Carol Harle. We are hopeful they will take this important opportunity to allow for community input, transparency, and collaboration with their constituents and the employees of the NISD district family. We are hopeful these important elected positions earn the trust of the community through a willingness to work together.

Northside AFT continues to support the students, parents, and our members through our commitment to bringing issues, concerns, and desires of the community to the NISD Board and collaboratively work towards an NISD school district our students, employees, and families deserve. We must always remember public schools belong to the public.

Policies that explicitly ban Black hairstyles from schools and workplaces continue to disproportionately target and affect Black people across Texas and that's wrong.

The CROWN Act (House Bill 392) prohibits discrimination based on natural hairstyles and hair texture. We need these protections in Texas. Well-publicized incidents in Texas of Black students being discriminated against are unacceptable. Texas AFT supports efforts by Reps. Ron Reynolds, Toni Rose, Rhetta Bowers, Brad Buckley, and Carl Sherman, to pass this into law. The bill had a hearing in the State Affairs Committee today.
