I hope this post is acceptable on this site. Looking for a group of 2nd grade Nisd teachers who’d like to collaborate on Schoology lessons. Our team spends hours creating lessons for each subject area that include rigor and small group and would love to join forces to put all of our ideas together. I’ve set up an NISD google share drive we could all use.
Kid got suspended for sharing a picture. Now the virus is spreading.

So the district has added 15 per day. (uncompensated). Now my school is saying, when we have duty, it begins at 7:30, not the 8 as it was. Any guidance on what’s allowed?
Do you have the you tube link from the Board Meeting?
President Wanda Longoria will be on the Channel 4 newscast @ 5 o'clock and 6 o'clock.
Why does NISD need full access to all my medical info for a year for me to be approved for at home teaching. They want access to everything for their own review. I am not comfortable with NISD trying to replace my doctor or feeling like they can second guess my doctor.
Regarding the extra 15 minutes per day:

In the recording of the Board meeting, Dr. Woods gave 3 reasons for the extra time (~43:00)

1) learning loss from Spring
2) protocols w/the time needed to get safely in the building
3) account from future disruptions

The district newsletter states that: • An additional 15 minutes will be added to each school day to provide for enhanced safety protocols.

Where does the extra learning come in?

It seems like the district got the board to approve it based on learning, but did a bait and switch, to get it to be just safety protocols, which will expose us to more risks of COVID, besides being uncompensated.

Any clarification is appreciated. Thank you for posting the video recap.
Since the 1950's Arkansas has not experienced this type of activism for justice. Union brothers and sisters across our nation are using their voices and strongly challenging the privatization of public schools and for rights in the workplace.

"In a significant break from the 1950s, unionized educators are
fighting together against the impositions of billionaire-backed
politicians trying to privatize public schools through charters. As in so many other states across the country, this offensive against the labor movement, public education, and working-class communities is being directly funded by billionaires."

Since we returned from the winter break NAFT has been advocating for a mask mandate to help slow the spread of this COVID surge. Although we would have liked to see this happen sooner, we are encouraged by the decision the district has made.

Northside AFT looks forward to working with district leadership to encourage the community and staff to wear their masks so we can slow the spread of COVID-19, and this surge of Omicron cases in our city.

NISD Employees Deserve a Retention Stipend

This year educators have worked harder than ever before, and the last two weeks have been some of the hardest weeks of this pandemic for educators. Other districts across San Antonio have shown their appreciation for their employees by providing them with a retention stipend. It is time for NISD leaders to do the same. Today we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We honor his memory and celebrate his wise words. We are reminded that we must not stay silent when we see injustices in the public education system. Teachers confront half-empty classrooms as virus surges | AP News

Kathryn Medendorp, Northside AFT Secretary, spoke to the AP about navigating COVID illness and absenteeism in the classroom.

"Teachers around the U.S. are confronting classrooms where as many as half of students are absent because they have been exposed to COVID-19 or their families kept them at home out of concern about the surging coronavirus."

"Kathryn Medendorp, an elementary school teacher at Northside Independent School District in San Antonio, said the social and emotional benefits of staying in school offset some of the academic difficulties caused by missing students and staff. But she favors a clear metric that would signal a return to remote lessons."

Covid cases across our city and district are at an all-time high, yet NISD is still not implementing basic mitigation strategies. We call on NISD leadership to take action. Implement a temporary mask requirement across the district, provide quality KN95 masks to staff, and ensure that there is testing for staff and students at ALL campuses. We must slow the spread so we can ensure our schools have staff and can stay open.

Teacher unions weigh in on San Antonio’s school district staffing shortages

We stand in solidarity with our union siblings at San Antonio Alliance, and North East AFT, and other teacher unions across the city, and across our nation.

Educators' voices must no longer be ignored. Teacher unions across the country are all asking districts to treat staff with respect and dignity, keep staff and students safe, and work closely with unions to hear the concerns and needs of the staff, and students. It is time to value the lives, and health of our educators and their students. #KeepEducatorsSafe #KeepStudentsSafe
