Hello!

My name is Morgan Parker and I am currently a Speech-Language Pathology graduate student at UT Health San Antonio in the medical center. I wanted to reach out and inform you that we are hosting a free of charge speech clinic this summer that will be providing both speech evaluations/diagnostics and treatment. The first three weeks of the clinic will be evaluations for those who are interested, and the remaining three weeks of the clinic will be our three different weeks of therapy. The first week of treatment focuses on social communication skills, the second week of treatment focuses on speech sound disorders, and our last week of treatment focuses on early language development. The therapy sessions will be M-F from 9:00-11:30 AM at our facility. If you know of anyone that would be interested or would benefit from our services please feel free to forward our flyer that I am attaching below. Please submit any applications to [email protected]. If you have any questions or would like more information please let me know!

General information

Respite Care’s services are unique and often the only services available for children with special needs. The Davidson Respite House Emergency Shelter (DRH) was established in 1997 to provide a safe haven for children with special needs. The DRH and the Najim Family Respite Home (opened in 2010), are the only shelters licensed by the state of Texas to care for children with developmental disabilities and complex medical diagnoses who are victims of abuse or neglect. Such children arrive from all over the state. In these warm and welcoming homes in the historic Monte Vista neighborhood, up to 30 children, ranging from infants to 17 years old, are cared for by specially trained caregivers. The Tracy Wolff Respite Home and the Respite Family Foster Home (established in 2008 and 2010) are located adjacent to the DRH and serve as transitional foster homes for children in need of safe haven. These homes allow a greater number of children to receive care by transitioning children from the DRH as they begin to heal and recover. Also, non-disabled siblings of DRH residents may be placed in the Najim Home and the foster homes, allowing for frequent sibling visits and maintenance of the family unit, avoiding further emotional harm to the children. Respite Developmental Daycare Center provides specialized care for children with developmental disabilities, affording families the opportunity to work and gain much needed financial resources for their family. The Center is open five days per week, and provides preschool intervention and care for children with developmental disabilities and their non-disabled siblings, creating an inclusive learning environment. Mother’s Day Out, provides childcare services two days per week and weekend services are offered at multiple locations throughout the city through Parent’s Night Out and Family Day Out. In 2006 Respite Care was licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to engage foster families to provide care within their homes. These foster families receive intense training, along with the availability of multiple specialized, integrated services Respite Care has developed to empower families caring for a child with special needs in a foster setting to reach their maximum capabilities. Within the Davidson Respite House, the Najim Respite Home, the Developmental Daycare Center and our transitional foster homes, medical and nursing services are provided by a team of skilled pediatric specialists to children with complex medical diagnoses who require procedures such as G-tube feedings and nebulizer treatments. Preventive health care and minor illness treatment is also provided. Each day families have the ability to visit with a registered nurse who can also aid parents in navigating the complex health care system.
