Camp Fit

CampFit is a fitness program for children and adults helping them to attain fitness goals. We use a program that creates excellence in small increments which leads to better self-worth, empowerment and long-term physical success.

[10/16/15]   Session 1 has come to a close and our runners did a FANTASTIC job!! They ran 149 miles this session! School totals are as follows
TPES- 62.25
KRES- 53
ASES- 33.75

We have 18 students who are in the 5K club and 9 students in the 10K club. Every student we had made it to the 5K club, that is awesome!! They are doing so well with continuing to work on their endurance and pacing skills. We will work on heart rates this next session, how to take them, what they do when you are resting or running and what all that means.

We are excited to have your students with us and hope to have more this next session that starts the week of Oct. 25th!

[10/08/15]   WOW! We had a great week 4 and I am so impressed by our students and their hard work to reach a goal they set for themselves each week! There were ALOT of medals earned this week so be sure and let these kids know how proud you are when you see them!

Great job, we just finished week 2 and we have almost 70 miles run so far, be watching this week, more medals are going home!

[09/21/15]   We had a great start to our first week of running club. Everyone at each school ran atleast 1 mile on their first day and we had one girl run 2.25 miles. They are learning how to breathe this week and slow down so they can run farther. Some are finding it easy to slow down and run far and others are having a little bit of hard time adjusting but they are all doing great and loving it so far! Be watching this week, I think we will have some kids joining the 5k club!!

[09/14/15]   Running clubs start this week!! Can't wait to see those eager faces and legs that will run like the wind! Have a great week, be watching for posts here!

Love it, see anyone can do it!

It took a great deal of coordination but the effort paid off last week when Champion Goldy Sr., 97, Orville Rogers, 96, Roy Englert, 92, Charles Ross, 91, and Charles Boyle, 91 became the first team of nonagenarians to compete in a relay at an official track meet. Rogers, Englert, Ross and Goldy set the world record in the 4x100 and Boyle replaced Gordy in the world record-setting 4x400 and 4x800 relays.

Getting a team to the USA Track and Field Masters Outdoor Championships last weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C. wasn’t easy. The group organized a pool of potential over 90-year-old runners knowing that many would back out or wouldn’t make it to the starting line. One member cancelled because he had cancer and thought he wouldn’t survive the weekend. Others had illnesses that kept them from traveling. When the 5 runners who made it met the night before their first event, they told one another, “Now 4 of us just have to make it another 24 hours.” No one laughed. They meant that literally.

Englert, like most of his relay teammates, didn’t start running until later in life. His first competition was at 60. “People make themselves old when they say I’m too old to do this and too old to do that,” he says.

ALways a good reminder!! I was dead last at my last race, I was doing great with training but had an off week and literally ran from aid station to aid station trying to decide if I could go on since I was have really bad GI issues. I was able to finish, yes dead last, but I finished and there was a crowd of people cheering me on when I crossed the finish line...I love trail running!!!

How to Treat and Prevent Running Injuries: Shin Splints

This is a great article, I get asked this question a lot!
Prevent-Running-Injuries-Shin-Splints.htm?cmp=291&memberid=156988731&lyrisid=43917649&email=[email protected]&gender=F&dob=19721107+00:00 While anybody can get shin splints, recent studies concluded that female runners and those with less experience are at greater risk. Learn what you can do to treat and prevent this pain.

People often ask me why I run. They tell me "wow, you look so much healthier (losing 60 lbs will do that) I wish I could do that but I CAN'T run." When I first had the thought of running it made me want to throw up, it seemed so boring to think about. Then I started....and little by little I hated it more and more, the pain, the aches, the beating myself up BUT then one day when I ran my first mile without walking it happened. I began to see myself so much differently, running was not just about exercising to lose weight it was about learning to overcome that small voice in my head that told me I couldn't do it, it was too hard. ANYONE can run, no matter your previous injuries, set backs, current issues, ANYONE can do it. You may have to learn a different way to do it to be good for your body but it is a sport or exercise that anyone can do. It doesn't matter if you run slow, fast, road or trail (everyone knows I hate the road) it just matters that you do it, day by day, step by step, mile by mile. I never expect my story to change the masses but if one person decides that "yes, this is something I can do" I would love to hear about it and cheer you on. If I can ever help please feel free to ask! Happy Tuesday! #100milesinJune

My PRs will never garner attention or generate awards. But when I run, I am 100 percent me -- my strengths and weaknesses play out like a cracked-open diary, my emotions often as raw as the chafing from my jog bra. In my ultimate moments of vulnerability, I am twice the woman I was when I thought I was meant to look pretty on the sidelines. Sweaty and smiling, breathless and beautiful: Running helps us all shine. A lesson worth passing along.

Why I don't do CrossFit

Here is an article of why we don't support CrossFit for kids or anyone else. I know this won't be a welcomed article but this is right on target. Health and fitness comes gradually and over time not in a weekend. Feel free to ask any questions, but please educate yourself before you start any type of fitness program. In the world of CrossFit, pain doesn't mean gain.

Love this!!

Good luck to those of you who are racing today - whether you're running 5k or a marathon, you're awesome!!

Pretty cool quote, I am attempting a new race this weekend and I have to admit I've been a little nervous. I will be running, biking and kayaking (kind of like a triathalon but called an adventure race cause its all off road). Anyway, I have been nervous about my lack of mountain biking experience but went out yesterday and really tried some tough hills and dips to build my confidence. Yes, it was scary, but it was a plateau over which I needed to conquer. I am proud to say I took on several hills and dips and feel very confident about tomorrow's race. Push yourself beyond limits and see what you can achieve, you'll never know if you don't try it! Happy Friday!

Bruce had me up to three miles a day, really at a good pace. We’d run the three miles in twenty-one or twenty-two minutes. Just under eight minutes a mile [Note: when running on his own in 1968, Lee would get his time down to six-and-a half minutes per mile].

So this morning he said to me “We’re going to go five.” I said, “Bruce, I can’t go five. I’m a helluva lot older than you are, and I can’t do five.” He said, “When we get to three, we’ll shift gears and it’s only two more and you’ll do it.” I said “Okay, hell, I’ll go for it.”

So we get to three, we go into the fourth mile and I’m okay for three or four minutes, and then I really begin to give out. I’m tired, my heart’s pounding, I can’t go any more and so I say to him, “Bruce if I run any more,” –and we’re still running-”if I run any more I’m liable to have a heart attack and die.” He said, “Then die.”

It made me so mad that I went the full five miles. Afterward I went to the shower and then I wanted to talk to him about it. I said, you know, “Why did you say that?” He said, “Because you might as well be dead. Seriously, if you always put limits on what you can do, physical or anything else, it’ll spread over into the rest of your life. It’ll spread into your work, into your morality, into your entire being. There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them."

Remember this when you are just starting out or on day 30, 60, 90 or can make the change but no one can do it for you!!

It takes 4 weeks for you to notice your body changing; 8 weeks for your friends to notice, and 12 weeks for the rest of the world to notice. Give it 12 weeks. Don't quit!!!! | RUNNING CAN BE GIVEN

This is a prime reason why we stress healthy diet, exercise and plenty of rest. Pills don't work and more times than not they do more harm than good.
Happy Friday everyone!!

[03/17/14]   I hope everyone had a great spring break! Looking forward to seeing all of the kids back running this week!!

Another great quote!

Some think guts is sprinting at the end of a race. But guts is what got you there to begin with. Guts start back in the hills with 6 miles to go and you're thinking of how you can get out of this race without anyone noticing. Guts begin when you still have forty minutes of torture left and you're already hurting more than you ever remember.
