Deaf Interpreter Services, Inc is proud of one of our own Issac Shamas. Issac was honored last weekend at the 31st Annual American’s with Disabilities Act with the Individual Advocacy award.
"Some people can, or only, help those with a specific disability. Issac is the epitome of willing & able to not only help those with a challenge but learn about what that challenge entails. From his world record breaking autism tent to support for many disability groups, he sets a standard! He drives people to events, sits on volunteer Boards, uses his advanced education to ensure communication happens, assists with vaccine clinics, does it all!! When he’s not volunteering or committing to a worthwhile project he has a voracious appetite for learning about disability." - Marilyn & John Weber

Deaf Interpreter Services, Inc is proud to co-sponsor the 31st annual ADA Celebration. This year we are joined by our truly remarkable keynote speaker Nick Scott. At the age of 16, Nick was an ordinary teenager with an interest in athletics, when a near fatal traffic accident changed life as he knew it… forever. After the accident, Nick became overweight and discouraged, but somehow found the determination, mindset and personal strength to transform his life from a debilitating tragedy into a personal triumph. Now he uses those hard-won insights to help others awaken the beast within themselves and achieve their personal goals.

DIS is saddened by the loss of one of our own, Phoebe Hendrix. Please share with us your memories of this remarkable woman.

"Phoebe wasn't just an Interpreter. She was family. She was a ray of sunshine, full of life and love. She always asked about my family and made sure I sent her pictures every month. Her presence could literally bring a smile to everyone's face and her colorful soul sent warm vibes that just made you wanna reach out and hug her. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. She will be greatly missed by my family and I." – Crystal Tower
