Today’s ‘FUNDAY San Antonio’ event was a sweet time meeting friends / classmates in person! 💙
Here I was on Tuesday, at the Texas Capitol in sunny Austin, sporting my Great Hearts shades, representing Great Hearts - Texas and all Texas public charter schools for “Charter Day” at the Texas House Public Education Committee.

Thank you, Starlee Coleman and all staff members at the Texas Public Charter School Association, who are working tirelessly to even the playing fields for public charter schools across the state! #txlege #txed
Thank you @votebarbara for sponsoring HB 3610 which would create property tax parity for ALL public schools!

San Antonio State Rep. Barbara Gervin-Hawkins submitted this bill on Tuesday to the Texas House Ways and Means Committee, where I testified in support of it.

It would exempt public charter schools from paying property taxes on leased school buildings. It is estimated this would save charter schools $12 million! #txlege #txed

Anyone else excited for Spring Break? We closed out our school day and booked it to a local park for a nature walk.

What are you doing this Spring Break? I'd love to see photos of what all the other Golden Eagles are up too.
Who do I contact with complaints / constructive criticism?
I thought that the 'no Friday' synchronous lessons started next week, but Joshua has been logged into zoom for almost 1/2 hour and no one is there ???
Does it start this week?
Thanks!
Is there a mascot or school colors for the school?
Does anyone know how to find the Great Hearts Online grade specific pages? I'm looking for the kinder page.
It is an early Christmas present! Can’t wait to dig in and start lesson planning!!!

[05/03/21]   To Our Great Hearts Online Teachers:

This year semester has been full of never-before-done things, challenges, celebrations, new relationships, and much more. These kinds of situations really test the mettle, the fortitude, the patience, the ingenuity, the character of all involved.

I'm continually impressed and honored by who you are, who you choose to be and become, each and every day. Your heart for students, daily outpouring of love, grace for all involved, and stability and consistency show your character.

One unique thing about Great Hearts is that we believe that student formation - intellectual, aesthetic, moral - is our job. That's the bar we strive toward. Central to that goal is giving scholars great models and living by example.

Teachers, you are the examples we put in front of our students - daily you show them what it means to be a good human being, to demonstrate acts of virtue, to lead with head and heart both.
I'm so grateful that you're on this journey with us, and I'm so grateful that our students have you are their teachers, their model, their guide. Thank you for everything you do - every minute - every day - to make Great Hearts Online a reality and to provide students and families with an excellent education and community.

With love,
Kurtis Indorf

National Poetry Month Feature: Dante was an Italian poet, writer and philosopher. His Divine Comedy, originally called Comedìa (modern Italian: Commedia) and later christened Divina by Giovanni Boccaccio, is widely considered the most important poem of the Middle Ages and the greatest literary work in the Italian language. Dante is known for establishing the use of the vernacular in literature at a time when most poetry was written in Latin, making it accessible only to the most educated readers. His De vulgari eloquentia (On Eloquence in the Vernacular) was one of the first scholarly defenses of the vernacular. His use of the Tuscan dialect for works such as The New Life (1295) and Divine Comedy helped establish the modern-day standardized Italian language, and set a precedent that important later Italian writers such as Petrarch and Boccaccio would follow.

Great Hearts Online

We find ourselves, like the rest of the world, in an unprecedented moment. Yet our beliefs around human connection and the pursuit of the true, the good, and the beautiful are as unwavering as ever. Thankfully, we have found a new medium and new mechanisms to bring a timeless education into more and more homes.

We have now offered classical Latin, ancient history, Greek geometry, medieval literature, and renaissance art on-line; we used computers to teach the manual skills of spelling and handwriting and drawing; through video conferencing, we brought students together to recite poetry and discuss the masterpieces and great ideas from the classical literary and philosophical tradition; and through a computer screen, students made friends, bonded with teachers, formed communities, laughed, smiled, and connected in new ways.

I invite you to join us as we launch Great Hearts Online across Texas in Fall 2020. Great Hearts Online is a public charter school, offering a tuition-free, rigorous, classical liberal arts curriculum including advanced math and science, robust arts, and foreign language classes.

For 20 years, Great Hearts has served students with the same clear and steadfast purpose. Yes, student learning is essential. Yes, excelling in school so students can access the best colleges and universities is critical. Parents, attending Great Hearts will realize these things for your students, but our mission is greater than that. The Great Hearts core purpose is to cultivate the hearts and minds of students in pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty. This purpose lives on in Great Hearts Online: different tools but the same curriculum, culture, faculty, and heart.
