This car seat information is what EVERYONE needs to know! So glad I took the class. I really like how Misael was very patient with the questions I had and clarification that I asked about when it came to using the latch system as well as the seat belt. The booster seat needed for kids under the height and weight requirement makes absolute sense when he shows you how the seat belt sits on the body. It is not about the age and this is so IMPORTANT! I am so thankful Misael went to my car and made sure my three year old daughters seat was up to specifications and also helped me figure out how to work the convertible seat for my soon to be newborn on the way! Thank You to All who contributed to making this class available!
Service: Top notch
Clarity: Superb
On spot training: 100%

A big thank you to MOPS at Fremont Presbyterian Church for giving our team the opportunity to present on child passenger safety, poison prevention, and water safety.
I stopped by a few weeks ago for an appointment with Misael. He double-checked my car seat installation and gave me a ton of good advice. I'd definitely recommend him and this program to anyone. Thank you, Misael.
Misa was absolutely fantastic very educational I learned so many new things about safety and how to correctly use a car seat he is very prompt and he speaks clearly and if you don’t understand something he will repeat it and show you how to do it correctly until you understand and know exactly how to do it Right....Thank you so much for hiring such a compassionate Man who truly loves his Job and who works hard to help people understand how to keep our babies safe

More than 2,600 children under 13 are involved in a car crash daily. That’s one child every 33 seconds. While most families put kids in car seats, the latest research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows 59 percent of car seats and 20% of booster seats are misused in a way that could reduce their effectiveness.

“Misuse” of car seats and booster seats is defined as a characteristic of installing the car seat/booster seat to the vehicle, or of restraining the child in a car seat/booster seat, that may reduce the protection of the car seat/booster seat in the event of a crash.

In span of a week, the U.S. has seen three vehicular heatstroke deaths.

Parents and others must remain vigilant about the ongoing danger of children and pets dying in hot cars, because heatstroke can be a four-season threat in some parts of the country. About 38 kids die each year from vehicular heatstroke, according to KidsAndCars.org and NoHeatStroke.org. Heatstroke is the leading cause of deaths in vehicles (excluding crashes) for children 14 and younger.

Should I Buy a Used Car Seat for My Baby? 07/16/2021

Should I Buy a Used Car Seat for My Baby?

Thrifty parents often ask whether it's OK to purchase a used car seat from a garage sale or an online auction or borrow one from a friend or family member. While a used car seat might save money, it could also compromise safety. Most often, you are better off buying a new seat.

If you're considering a used car seat, confirm these important details.

1. Age of seat
2. Expiration date
3. Labels and manuals
4. Original parts
5. Crash history

Should I Buy a Used Car Seat for My Baby? Buying a used car seat could save you money, but it could cost you in terms of safety. Here's why you shouldn't buy used when it comes to car seats.

Many parents/caregivers are surprised to find out that car seats expire. As to why car seats expire—now that’s a slightly more complex answer. A variety of factors contribute to a car seat expiration. Car seats are mainly made of plastic with metal bits (some feature steel frames, though this is more common in newer models) in key areas and fabric covering the seating area. Car seats typically live inside cars, and depending where you live temperatures inside your vehicle can range from 50 below zero to 140 degrees. Through these extreme temperature changes the car seat sits and endures and these climate fluctuations—and time—take a toll on the plastics.

Most car seats last between six and 10 years, but car seat expiration dates vary by manufacturer. The expiration date is often printed on the seat itself; if not, check the instruction manual for each car seat you own or give the manufacturer a call.

Child hot car deaths at record lows following the pandemic

The U.S is on track to record a low number of hot car deaths in kids, but with the heat continuing to increase over the summer months, there's a new worry.

Amber Rollins, the Director of Kidsandcars.org, says the relaxing of pandemic-related restrictions can lead to more problems.

"We're definitely very concerned about the coming months because one of the biggest factors in hot car deaths... is a change in that normal daily routine," Rollins said.

Child hot car deaths at record lows following the pandemic As people return to work and travel, representatives and physicians urge parents to be aware of leaving their child in the car.

Injury Prevention Program

The Kohl’s Injury Prevention Program, a partnership between Kohl’s Cares and the UC Davis Children’s Hospital, is dedicated to improving childhood safety in the community. Each year in Sacramento hundreds of children are disabled or die from preventable injuries. In fact, more children are affected by injuries every year than all other childhood illnesses and diseases combined.

In 2016, over 2,500 children were treated at the UC Davis trauma center for preventable injuries. The Oak Park Community, a neighborhood adjacent to the UC Davis Health Campus in Sacramento, was disproportionally represented among these injuries and has been identified in our Community Health Needs Assessment as a priority area for collaborative injury prevention initiatives.

The goal of the Kohl’s Injury Prevention 2018-2019 program is to reduce preventable injuries among children in the Oak Park and surrounding area by fostering a safe and violence-free community. We are working with key stakeholders such as Greater Sacramento Urban League, Black Child Legacy Campaign – Oak Park, Oak Park Neighborhood Association, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services along with schools, churches and residents to focus on teen safe driving, youth violence prevention and childhood traffic safety.
