Jonathan Blum (Musical Direction and Piano)
Jonathan is a community actor and music director. ANOTHER AS YOU LIKE IT REUNION/ Touchstone was his first show with Sacramento Shakespeare Festival. Earlier this fall, he played Clotaldo in LIFE IS A DREAM. A local graduate of American River College (MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING ; SWEENEY TODD; THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA), he also plays with City Theatre (MR. Racine Strong (Snow White)
This past summer, Racine made her debut with the Sacramento Shakespeare Festival as Rosalind in ANOTHER AS YOU LIKE IT REUNION. Earlier this fall she played Estrella in LIFE IS A DREAM. She has been participating in shows since the age of 13 and is very grateful to have found such a beautiful and supportive theatre family here at Sac City. Previous favorite roles include Norma Jean Harris/DECISION HEIGHT. Dora Bailey/SINGING IN THE RAIN, and Betty Bumbrake/PETER AND THE STARCATCHER. She hopes to pursue a career in performance in San Francisco when she transfers there in 2023.

Bob Roe (Dame Mistress Parsley-Sage)
Bob Roe is in his 60th year performing in community theatres. "I was doing Ibsen at 6!" Some of his favorite roles include the 9 D’Ysquiths in A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER, Ko Ko, Lord High Executioner in THE MIKADO, and Albin/Zaza in LA CAGE AU FOLLES (2004 Elly Award recipient). He is a native Californian and has lived in Sacramento for 25 years. He is especially grateful to his fiancé, HT, for his love and support.

Angus McNay (Geraldo-Guard)
Though a recent start to acting, begun in just January of 2022, Angus has been seen as Will in NEW BOOK, THE GREAT MANIPULATION, and as Moises Kaufman depicting Stephen Mead Johnson, Harry Woods, and Reverend Fred Phelps in THE LARAMIE PROJECT. Playing the roles of first citizen and second watch in ROMEO AND JULIET, Angus McNay made their Sacramento Shakespeare Festival debut.

Kevin Armer (Sargent Roderigo-Soldier, Understudy: for King Basilio, Clotaldo)
LIFE IS A DREAM will be Kevin’s first production . He has “5 rusty year’s worth” of experience with public speaking and professional presentations thanks to the project-based high school he attended. He grew up living a fairly adventurous rural life riding horses and exploring the 300-acre ranch of a family friend this has translated into a love of acting and theatre.

Shawn Ali is 22 years old and is new to acting. LIFE IS A DREAM is his first theatre performance. He is passionate about tv, films, and theatre. Christian Vang has been seen as Dudley in THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE, and Felix Schmidt in SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY for An Evening of Monologues at Skyline Theatre Club; he has played the roles of Philip Dubois, Baptist Minister, Dr.Cantway, Governor Jim Geringer, Cal Rerucha, Anonymous, and narrator ensemble in THE LARAMIE PROJECT at City Theatre.

Nicholas Friedrich (Enrico-Domingo-Musician)

Nicholas Friedrich appeared as Gregory/Antony in ROMEO AND JULIET and Oliver in ANOTHER AS YOU LIKE IT REUNION during this year's Sacramento Shakespeare Festival. He is an avid performer of choral music and has recently performed in VERDI'S REQUIEM with the Sacramento Choral Society and MAHLER'S SECOND with the UC Berkeley Chamber Chorus. While he doesn't have much theatre experience, he is extremely grateful to be performing in LIFE IS A DREAM. Nicholas credits his older sister as his inspiration for pursuing community theatre and choir, as she has performed in several plays/musicals across the greater Sacramento area and always encourages him to audition.

Her past productions with City Theatre include HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS and DECISION HEIGHT. Her other theatre experience includes River City Theatre Company and River City High School. Joseph Dennis (Astolfo)

Joseph Dennis is currently a Junior at CSU Sacramento. His first introduction into theatre was in middle school, although he began performing the following freshman year. Throughout high school, he has performed and competed with various roles such as East from ALMOST, MAINE, and King Henry from KING HENRY IV, PART II; recently, he performed as the Ghost in Sac State’s production of HAMLET, as well as the Prince in Sacramento Shakespeare Festival’s ROMEO AND JULIET. He’s thankful to perform alongside such a talented cast.

Lauren Graffigna (Segismundo)

Lauren Graffigna is making her debut with Sacramento City Theater in LIFE IS A DREAM. You may have seen her portray Horatio/HAMLET at Sacramento State University and Johnson/ THE BOUNDARY in the Festival of One Acts at Sacramento State University. She is a Preschool Teacher at Merryhill School in Elk Grove; a board game enthusiast, a dog mom, a devoted wife, daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, and cousin. She received her degree from CSUS in Organizational Communications with a Minor in Theatre. She is grateful for the opportunity to work with so many talented and committed individuals and to all of her family and friends for their unending support of her dreams. So, let us dare to dream!

Sonny Alforque (King Basilio)

Sonny Alforque earned his theatre arts degree at the University of the Philippines. Most recently, he appeared as Canning Woo in THE JOY LUCK CLUB and different characters in OUR TOWN. His many previous credits include Dodge/BURIED CHILD, Sir Toby Belch/ TWELFTH NIGHT, Jaques Roux/MARAT/SADE, The Reciter/PACIFIC OVERTURES, Egeon/A COMEDY OF ERRORS, The Common Man/ A MAN FOR All SEASONS, Mr. Sowerberry/OLIVER!, Tiresius/ANTIGONE, Mao Tze Tung/STRUGGLING TRUTHS, and The Band Leader/ BEST LITTLE WH******SE IN TEXAS. The Founding Artistic Director of Sinag-tala Filipino Theater and Performing Arts Association for 25 years, he also directed plays for InterACT for ten seasons. His triple-generation family of theatre artists includes wife Letty (costume designer), daughter Angela-Dee (former SCC and CSUS professor) and granddaughter Malaya, a theatre major at Wagner College, New York.

Synopsis from Wikipedia: Life Is a Dream (La vida es sueño) is a philosophical allegory regarding the human situation and the mystery of life.[2] The play has been described as "the supreme example of Spanish Golden Age drama.” The story focuses on the fictional Segismundo, Prince of Poland, who has been imprisoned in a tower by his father, King Basilio, following a dire prophecy that the prince would bring disaster to the country and death to the King. Basilio briefly frees Segismundo, but when the prince goes on a rampage, the king imprisons him again, persuading him that it was all a dream.
Character descriptions:
Segismundo: Prince and King Basilio’s son, imprisoned because of a prophecy that he would be a tyrant if he becomes king.
Basilio: King of Poland, astrologer and scientist who tries to evade fate.
Clotaldo: Segismundo’s jailor and father to Rosaura.
Rosaura/Astraea: Noblewoman and Clotaldo’s daughter, who returns to Poland to find Astolfo her former lover. She is in disguise as a man.
