How much did you spend for that recent dental technology? Just like any sales organization there is fantastic marketing when it comes to selling you the “best” and "must have" items. But technology today is expanding so rapidly that there are exponential options and features. Be sure to make your NEEDS LIST first and THOROUGHLY REVIEW at least three competitors with a side-by-side comparisons before you make your decision. Do you know your brand message? Every practice should have a short message that represents what you stand for at the core of your business. It should be easy to remember and shared often with patients in person and all communications. The more you repeat your brand message, the more often you’ll be remembered and the higher your referrals will be - every single month.

DENTAL COLLECTIONS: If your collections are not where they should be, it’s usually the collection system. Patients find many reasons not to pay on time but after 60 days, your chances to collect are less than 10%. Meet with your team to develop a five-star system that makes sure patients are setup for their payments.

STRONG GOODBYES! When a patient leaves an appointment, this is your opportunity to remind them how much you appreciate them. Simply telling someone how great it was to see them goes such a long way and reinforces that your practice is the right office for them.

Are you submitting fee schedules regularly? Negotiating insurance reimbursements is not as easy as many make it seem. Submitting your new fee schedules regularly will help to gradually raise reimbursements.

Take time to tour your own office. SCHEDULE TIME when the entire team can spend an hour with the doctor every 3 months identifying what your office looks like from the moment staff drive into your parking lot, evaluating each space, re-organizing shelves and drawers, and creating a clean, uncluttered experience for both staff and patients. Doing this exercise with the goal of making just a few updates regularly will ultimately reduce stress for you and your entire team.

If you plan to sell your dental practice in the next 5 years, it is critical that your lease is structured to allow for a smooth transition. Term, assignment, personal guarantees, and ongoing liability are just a few items that you want to address long before your eventual sale.
