It’s almost time to start the meeting - following the signs.

09/25/2019

Meet Lydia Varela, 2019-2020 Vice-President, Public Relations for Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters. She first learned about Toastmasters through friends she trusts who were also on the path of professional and personal development and were having a good experience with Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters.

She joined Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters because as a heritage Spanish-speaker, she learned Spanish at home but was never taught in Spanish and is always seeking opportunities to increase her confidence in her Spanish communications skills and practice presenting in Spanish

Lydia’s favorite Toastmaster role is as Evaluator because it helps her become a better listener and allows her to provide feedback to speakers to help them learn and grow.

Le encanta Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters porque le gusta practicar haciendo discursos en Español, ayudar la gente crecer y conocer nuevas amistades.

09/24/2019

Meet David Nicholson, Certified Toastmaster and 2019-2020 Vice-President Membership for Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters.

David learned about Toastmasters many years ago and when he discussed becoming a better public speaker with his wife, she referred him to Richardson Noon Toastmasters, which he joined 15 years ago and with the help of his wonderful mentor achieved his Certified Toastmasters certification.

A few years ago he started learning Spanish and asked about a Spanish-language Toastmasters group; he was introduced to Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters and has been a member of Fiesta Bilingual Toastmaster for 5 years.

His favorite Toastmaster role is the Ah Counter or Contador de muletillas because it allows him listen in a very detailed way what people are saying.

He enjoys that Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters allows him routine, scheduled and structured opportunity to practice and improve his Spanish communications skills which he says he doesn’t have the self-discipline to put the time in, plus it’s fun and enjoyable!

09/23/2019

Meet D’Anne Brevetti,Distinguished Toastmaster 2019-2020 Vice-President of Education at Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters, plus she’s held numerous executive committee roles for several clubs in the area.

She joined Toastmasters in 2016 after meeting a customer at her gift shop who confidently introduced herself as a Toastmaster and was seeking potential members to start a new club. They started a new club and D’Anne was thrilled to continue developing her professional speaking, communications and presentation skills, plus the opportunity to share “lessons learned” throughout her career as a public speaker and corporate trainer.

D’Anne enjoys serving in each role to continue developing skills that promote leadership opportunities and instill confidence to interact within a group. Whether serving or speaking in Table Topics (critical "out of the box" thinking) or Evaluator (listening skills that help us learn how to give and receive conscientious, effective feedback), however, Grammarian is her favorite Toastmaster role.

She’s been a corporate trainer and public speaker for more than 33 years. Her career field was in real estate management, commercial as well as private industry training corporate staff in federal fair housing, Equal opportunity and ADA law.

D’Anne loves that Fiesta Bilingual is like family. Regardless of social backgrounds or cultural differences, we are Toastmasters. We genuinely care and support each other toward achieving goals and celebrating successes. Whatever our heritage, our common bond.

Meet Armando Villafuerte, 2019-2020 Sergeant at Arms for Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters. Armando learned about Toastmasters when he Googled public speaking training opportunities and joined Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters a few months ago to develop his communications and leadership skills in both English and Spanish

He's the second half of our husband-wife team that recently jumped into serving on the executive committee ensuring our meetings are executed according to Toastmasters standards, plus practicing leadership skills in a professional environment.

Armando’s first language is Spanish; he is an avid reader, lover and writer of poetry and a favorite presenter and storyteller in our club. His favorite Toastmaster role is Table Topics Master because it allows him to be creative in selecting table topics, plus he makes mini presentations when he introduces the table topics - he loves speaking in front of an audience.

Armando likes the Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters meeting environment, the friendly people and the opportunity to learn and grow when he serves in different roles at each meeting.

Meet Leonor Morales, 2019-2020 Secretary for Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters. Leonor Morales is half of our dynamic husband-wife team; her husband Armando introduced and encouraged her join Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters a few months ago.

She originally came to Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters to support her husband and quickly realized she too could benefit from the club to develop her communications and leadership skills in both languages.

Leonor’s first language is Spanish and she works in education. Toastmasters is helping her become more confident and comfortable speaking in front of an audience and to practice her English in a professional setting.

Her favorite Toastmaster’s role is Timer because it allows her to listen intently to the speaker and guide them to qualify their speech by providing the green, yellow and red card indicators. She likes the Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters members because they are wonderful people to connect and learn from.

¡Mira lo que te perdiste esta noche! El tema de la noche fue 9/11 y la palabra del día fue remembranza. Tuvimos un discurso de Rompa Hielo muy divertido y ganamos un nuevo miembro.

09/11/2019

You don’t have to wait for our Sep 25 Open House to visit us - see you tonight! Es el 2o miércoles del mes, así nuestra reunión será realizada en Español.

09/09/2019

Meet Lisette Cumberland, DTM, 2019-2020 Treasurer.

Her journey into Toastmasters began with an article she read about an employee at her company that had received the distinction of DTM.

She joined Toastmasters in June 2009 to keep the memory of her father, who was a motivational speaker, alive. Even as a natural-born speaker, he saw his need to improve and attempted to join the local Toastmasters chapter, in the 1960s, and was told he didn't need it.

Her favorite Toastmasters role is Evaluator because it challenges her in all areas such as listening, observation, audience reception, etc... while pinpointing the speaker's strengths as well as where he/she could use further support or assistance to exceed their own expectations.

What she likes most about our Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters that we are a big diverse family learning and growing together in two languages simultaneously. Where else could you accomplish that?

Photos from Fiesta Bilingual Toastmasters's post 08/29/2019

Tonight’s theme was “Challenges” and the Word of the Day was “Courageous”. Leonor was very courageous as she served as our Toastmaster tonight, managing the meeting splendidly as she faced her challenge of public speaking. Thank you to our visitor Drew and our other members for another successful meeting and opportunity to practice our communications and leadership skills. See you on September 11th!
