Are you interested in building sustainable home solutions for families in rural Guatemala?

This summer, Volunteers Around the World is going to work with local families in Guatemala and we are accepting applications for volunteers! We will be taking a group of students who are passionate about the environment and sustainability, and we will give them the tools and direction needed to help improve the living conditions of the families we are working with. We will do this by implementing home solutions that will improve living conditions by providing basic needs in a sustainable manner

This includes:
• compost boxes
• recycled water and water filtration systems
• family gardens
• latrines.

This is an amazing opportunity to learn about sustainability, farming, clean water solutions, and a new culture! Students typically come from an engineering or environmental science background, but we do accept applications from all backgrounds and majors.

If this sounds like something you would like to lead email me at [email protected] for more info! We are looking to bring a VAW Global chapter to your campus and need a TEAM LEADER to do so.
If Brown is Green, why are they tearing down the Urban Environmental Laboratory, the first superinsulated adaptive reuse project in New England and a model for similar efforts to reuse older buildings everywhere. Where are the student protests about this misguided destruction?

Check us out for updates about Brown University sustainability!

Brown makes strides toward fully electrifying its vehicles, groundskeeping equipment 07/11/2023

In addition to the strides made in electrifying the University's fleet of vehicles, we are excited to report that 95% of the handheld maintenance equipment used by Grounds has been converted from gas-powered to electric. This transition began in 2015, and in March 2022 official policy was adopted that requires all new University vehicle purchases to be electric or plug-in hybrid electric. Read more about this and other efforts at the link below:

Brown makes strides toward fully electrifying its vehicles, groundskeeping equipment As the University works toward achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, decreasing air and noise pollution is part of Brown’s broader commitment to sustainability.

Clean break Announcements:

Campus-wide announcement:

Do you have a t-shirt that you never wore this year? What about an extra fan or an unopened bottle of shampoo you’re never going to use? Donate the items that you no longer need through the Clean Break program!

Clean Break is a donation program run by the Office of Sustainability and Resiliency in partnership with student volunteers and organizations across the state! This year, your donations will be supporting the work of GoodWill, Housing Opportunities for People Everywhere, and the Mt. Pleasant Library. We have historically donated tens of thousands of pounds of goods, so your donation really makes a difference!

Donations will be accepted in bins, located across campus, between May 13th and May 20th. Click here for full bin location information: https://linktr.ee/brownsustainability

Clean Break’s partner organizations are able to accept items such as clothes, shoes, accessories, bedding, backpacks, and books, but please do not throw any trash, including glass, cans, and bottles, into the bins. Please do not donate hangers, pillows, or mattress toppers.

Thank you for helping to divert waste on campus and support local organizations! If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

Bike Trail Feedback Wanted! The City of Providence has a survey available until 10/31 for members of the community who used the the Hope Street Temporary Trail in early October. The trail repurposed parking spaces on the east side of Hope Street, from Lauriston Street to Olney Street, for one week. The goal of the project was to give community members an opportunity to experience an urban trail (a two-way protected lane for walking, running, biking, scootering, rolling, etc.)
