Reaching out to our extended FAS family. We are moving and sadly we are selling a large collection of French children's books that motivated our wee Frankophone-er from Maternelle through the DELF. Do stop by and hear from him (at 19) describe which were his favorites and pick up one or two for your own PYPer.

Please stop by, Saturday/(Sunday if needed) 8-1. 10659 NW Lost Park Drive, 97229.

I’ve noticed other schools have messages on their marquees about their graduates and/or graduation dates. I really think that we should have a message on ours that honors the FAIS graduates. It’s a huge milestone for the kids!
Stay tuned! 🎾 We’re dropping a ~major announcement~ later today. 🗣 In the meantime, enjoy some French American International School students showing us what they've got in their old gym — soon to be remolded with funds from FAIS' super sucessful fundraising gala, with video production by us! 🌟 But that's not even our BIG news for today, there's more. 🙃 Check back soon, you're gonna want to know about this 😈

With the help of our video production, they've far exceeded their goal (again for the third year in a row!), raising over $230,000 for the renovation of their gym that will allow FAIS students to grow and exceed in their PE and athletics programs. We couldn't be happier to see these local educators succeed! 💗

In honor of our third year of FAIS productions, we thought we'd share a throwback scene from the before times. 💫 Want to see more of the work we've done for FAIS? Head to bridgecitymedia.com/our-work to peruse our portfolio. 😎

We are proud of our middle school students who presented yesterday to the Portland City Council on School Safety Zones, Support for Houseless Citizens, and Pothole Problem-Solving — all important issues that affect our safety and the well-being of all Portlanders.

What a great example of taking action, and embodying key IB Learner Profile attributes of being knowledgeable, courageous (risk-takers), and thinkers!

Preschoolers concluded their two-month inquiry series into different jobs and responsibilities within a community – including staff and families at FAIS!

As part of their International Baccalaureate (IB) unit “We depend on one another,” students learned about jobs ahead of time – through books, videos, and building basic research skills – to prepare questions to ask their special guests, including: an artist, ballet dancer, colorectal surgeon (who promised not to talk about “booty surgery”), consultant, fashion designer, dentist, ER nurse, farmer, interventional radiologist, scientist, veterinarian, and our USPS mail carrier.

At the end of the unit, students created a web of all the jobs and how everything (and everyone) is connected in a community.

Thank you to all of our special guests for sharing their time and stories to help bring learning to life for some of our youngest students!

Middle School students in Minda McCandless' class have worked on concurrent units for most of this semester: mock trial/moot court and citizen engagement.

For the latter, students chose an issue they saw needing attention in our community or state, conducted research on possible policies, and created a specific proposal to present to the appropriate public body who would address the issue.

Our first three groups presented to Portland City Council Wednesday morning and showed amazing preparation and poise! Three more groups will present on May 25, with one group presenting to state legislators (which will not be recorded).

Congratulations to the groups who presented, and good luck to the groups later this month -- we're so proud of all of you!

The Book Masters represented FAIS in the Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) mini-Regional on April 23rd.

They battled in the morning during Pool Play, taking home a tie for 8th place — finishing the tie-breaker round with a tie before going out in sudden death.

Congrats, to team Book Masters on a successful OBOB for 2021/22!

Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who made OBOB possible, and to Kelly Post-Lewis… who volunteered as regional co-chair, enabling 19 schools to participate (and keep battling) who may not have been able to otherwise!

For the first time in three years, students were able to present their 5th Grade PYP Exhibition projects in-person – to staff and students during the day, and to families in the evening!

The 5th Grade Exhibition is the culminating project of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), and an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge, concepts, approaches to learning skills and IB Learner Profile attributes.

Students engaged in in-depth collaborative inquiry on a real-life opportunity or problem of interest with local and global implications. Presentations were given in both English and French, arranged for different age groups, and covered an impressive and broad range of subjects.

Congratulations to all of our 5th graders! Thank you to all of the mentors who volunteered their time to help students in their exhibition journey, and to everyone else for their support and helping make the exhibition a success!

More to come this week — snacks all-day on Wednesday from parent volunteers, coffee cart on Friday, and special thank yous from students throughout the week.

All FAIS teachers and staff: For all that you do for our students (this week and every week), and for your wholehearted investment into our school…

It’s the last day of Spring Break! While we’re happy our students (and families) have the opportunity to rest and recharge, we’ve definitely missed having them on campus.

In the meantime, it’s always nice having them here in spirit with displays of their work… like these self-portrait projects from Ms. Begley’s 8th grade artists. Have a great weekend — we can’t wait to welcome you back on Monday!
