Salaam Families,

Our team is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and are in communication with the Claremont Unified School District and Los Angeles Department of Public Health regarding updates that impact ICC Community School.

Please note we are NOT being advised to close the school at this time. Should this moment arrive, you will be notified immediately. For this reason, please make sure to update your child’s emergency information with Sr. Vanessa in the front office.

As a cautionary measure, we will no longer be holding and/or participating in the following local events:
- OCS Spelling Bee (March 20)
- LA County Science Fair (March 20)

We will also be postponing the Gala Dinner at this time.

I will be emailing an important announcement this afternoon regarding updates to school operational procedures and practices in the event a recommended school closure.

Please continue to practice good hygiene principles.

Throwback to last week when we hosted a very special Kids' Iftar to celebrate our first grade class' completion of their memorization of Juz' 'Amma (Juz' 30). May Allah (swt) continue to grant them and all of our students the tawfiq to continue their memorization, and may the Qur'an be a source of guidance for them and all those around them, aameen! 🤲

Masha'Allah, last weekend was an amazing weekend for ICC Community School!
8 of our middle school students participated in the Los Angeles County Science and Engineering Fair with about 900 students from all over LA County, and alhamdulillah we came home with many awards! 🎉🎉

🥇Talha Mala: 1st Place in Product Science for his project on optimizing the output of solar panels.
🥈Affan Mala: 2nd Place in Engineering Research for his project on data transmission through light waves.
🥉Ameena Shafiq: 3rd Place in Pharmacology for her project on the enzymatic activity of papain and its application to cancer research.
🏅Atiqa Shafiq: Honorable Mention in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology for her research on diabetes and the glucose concentration of popular drinks.
🎖️Zaher Azzawi: Recognition Award in Animal Physiology for his project on the glucose concentration of homemade smoothies and which could best help hypoglycemic patients.
🎖️Asrar Mohamed: Recognition Award in Ecology for her project on comparing the varying pH and TDS levels of water from 1st world and 3rd world countries.
🎖️Sarah Hijazi: Recognition Award in Material Science for her project on comparing the effect of different materials on WiFi signal strength.
🎖️Zubair Batliwala: Recognition Award in Physics (General) for his project on measuring light waves with a microwave.

🌟SPECIAL AWARDS🌟
-Both Talha Mala and Affan Mala received the Naval Science Award from the Office of Naval Research (USNavy and U.S. Marine Corps).
-Talha Mala was also a finalist for the sweepstakes cash prize.

Congratulations to all of our students and their families! We are so proud of all of you! 🤩🤩🤩

Talha Mala and Affan Mala will both continue on to the California State Science Fair, which be held later this month at the CaliforniaScienceCenter! They have also been invited to participate in Broadcom MASTERS National Science Competition. We wish them both the utmost success!

🔬🔭 FULL STEAM AHEAD! 👨‍🔬👩‍🔬
Last night, ICC Community School held its 4th Annual STEAM Night. Masha'Allah, it was a huge success! Students, teachers, staff, and community members came together and spent the evening immersed in activities involving science, technology, engineering, art, and math!

A very special thanks to NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Harvey Mudd College's Homework Hotline, SpaceX, Caltrans District 8, and all of the other professionals in our community who presented during the event!

We also thank all the parents, teachers, and staff for helping make this event possible! ICC rocks!

ICCCS is saddened by the tragic event that took place during Jum’uah prayers in Christchurch, New Zealand. Inna lillahi wa inna illahi rajioon. May Allah (s) embrace those parents, children, friends, and neighbors granting them mercy and give their families patience, strength, and peace.

Alhamdulillah there is no specific issue or threat for our school related to this event. As proactive measures for increased security and safety we have requested an additional police presence today during Jum'uah and for our community STEAM Night from 5-8 pm.

Families, please be mindful of how children take in the news, your reactions, and discussions among adults surrounding them.
