The start of a new school year is always exciting, but little ones sometimes feel nervous about making the transition whether that be the prospect of a new classroom, new teachers or new friends. Try these tips to help build your child's confidence for the first day of school and beyond:
👋 Wave Goodbye to Summer: Enjoy an end-of-summer picnic and a first day back at school breakfast with your family.
🙂 Keep it Positive: Your attitude makes a huge difference when it comes to building excitement about the school year. Talk to your child about all the fun they'll have and how they'll get to see their school friends soon.
🍎 Practice Healthy Habits: Schedules tend to get off track in the summer, so it's important to reestablish your child's normal sleeping and eating schedules. The transition will be easier for both of you when your little one is well-rested and feeling good.
🗓️ Make a Paper Chain: Starting in the final days of summer, create a paper chain with every "link" representing one day. Have your child draw what happened that day on each link. When the first month of school is over, you'll have a fun memory craft to decorate with.
📚 Read Together: Reading books about heading back to school is a fun way to get your child excited while helping strengthen their early literacy skills.
