The next NJHS meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 7th in Mr. Keahey's room, C101. There will be a morning session starting at 7:45 a.m. and an afternoon session starting at 3:45 p.m. It is required for all members to attend one of these sessions. Those planning on attending the morning session will need to see Mr. Keahey in room C101 or Ms. Lytle in room J122 for a pass. We will be discussing service opportunities and introducing our officers
Picture retakes are Monday. If you would like to have your picture retaken, then please follow the instructions on your current picture packet. Pictures will be taken before school on Monday.

If you missed the first meeting of the Muslim Student Association then don't wait any longer the next meeting will be this Friday in Mr. Khan's room, C103 from 7:45 to 8:20AM. Again any students of any religion can attend the meetings

Last night the 8th grade volleyball team took on Frankford. Otto “B” team played a very close match but came up short. The first game Otto went point for point with Frankford finishing 18-25. Playing well for the Bobcats were: Cielo Carreno, Courtney Grope and Tara Vasanth. The second “B” team game was led by Bridget Zhang and Beyonce Lee.
The “A” team beat Frankford last night in 2 games, 25-21 & 25-15. The girls played with excellent determination and team work! Nicole Nguyen played flawless on the back row! Dominating the net were: Priscilla Tran, Abby Blasingame and Janae Kell. Anna Luu Scored 11 points off of her serve with several serves being ACES!!! Congrats to the girls on their Victory!!!! The Girls travel to Hendrick Middle School next Monday. Good Luck to these hard working Lady Bobcats!!!!!!

Holy cow… the 7th grade volleyball team rocked it out last night. First of all, a big THANK YOU goes out to all who came out to support the team. There was an awesome crowd and that help contribute to the ladies win! B team had 3 sets of exciting play – winning the 1st 25-14, losing the 2nd 22-25 and then rallying back to win the 3rd set 25-22. The A team closed in out in 2 sets winning a close hard fought first game 25-23 and then dominating the second 25-10. Quyn-Thy Dang served 9 points in a row to help close it out, but ALL the girls put forth a great TEAM effort to beat the Schimelpfenig Panthers. Our next home game is this next Tuesday. They need your help once again Bobcats. So come out and cheer them on defeat Frankford. GO BOBCATS!
Today is the last day of the Scholastic Book Fair. Be sure you stop by before NOON to make those last minute purchases.

Tonight is the first Social of the year. Tickets are $3.00 if you buy today at lunch, if not they will be $4.00 at the door. You may also want to bring additional money to purchase face painting, pizza, drinks, and candy.
6th graders, your social is from 6:00-7:15. The Bus Lane is your area for drop off and pick up. 7th/8th grade students, your social is from 7:30-8:45. The Car Pool Lane is your area for drop off and pick up. Please make sure that you have a ride ready to pick you up on time.

The 8th grade volleyball team traveled to Schimelphenig Tuesay night and took on the Lady Panthers. The B team is improving by leaps and bounds!!! Defensively Teagan Downey and Elaina Salinas played really well. Offensively Courtney Grope and Karma Gardner were very impressive. The A team started the game with great momentum by winning the first match 25-18 but came up short in the next two games. Schimelpfenig won the match but the Lady Bobcats played them point for point. Playing well for the A team defensively were Nicole Nguyen and Elise Leonard! Emma Freeman and Anna Luu were excellent team Leaders as they gave the hitters awesome sets. Abby Blasingame dominated the net with many great hits!!! The Lady Bobcats will travel to Frankford on this coming Monday. Come out and support the girls!

Today after school is the first meeting of the book club. The book club will meet in the library. So come by the library after school to find out more information.
Tonight is our first Spirit Night is at Mogios Gourmet Pizza in Murphy. 15% of all orders taken from 11am to close, which is 10pm, will be donated to Otto.
Tomorrow is the deadline for many things.
1. Math Counts will meet for the first time with Mr. Lantiere win room J101
2. 8th grade t-shirts are due to Mrs. Aspden by the end of the day.
3. If you are auditioning for the musical, then you need to have the audition application completed by midnight.
4. The offer to get 4 free icons with your yearbook order of either the Personalize It or the Signature Package ends at midnight.

The lost and found rack is in the rotunda. Please check for your jackets, PE clothes and more. All small items and valuables are in the front office with Ms. Schreiner. All items remaining on the rack on January 24th will be donated to Goodwill.

Friday, January 31st, is the ABSOLUTE last day to pre-order your 2013-2014 yearbook. There are two ways to order your yearbook. 1st – go to www.JostensYearbooks.com . That is Jostens with an “S” and Yearbooks with an “S.” The second way to order is by returning the yearbook order form to the box in the front office with either cash or check made to Otto Middle School. Extra yearbook order forms can be found in the front office. Pre-ordering your yearbook is the ONLY way to guarantee that you will receive a book in May. Please order today.

Attention students: The Winter social is just around the corner! The social will be held on Friday January 31st. Admission is $4 at the door or the tickets will be sold in advance at LUNCH Thursday Jan. 30th and Friday Jan. 31st for $3. As a special privilege, students with a 3rd six weeks Platinum Bobcat Card can enter the social for FREE!

The sixth grade portion of the social begins at 6 pm and ends at 7:15 pm. Sixth graders need to be dropped off and picked up at the back of the school by the cafeteria. The seventh and eighth grade portion is from 7:30 to 8:45. Seventh and eight graders will be dropped off and picked up at the front of the school.

What songs do YOU want to hear? The DJ will play it! We will have a movie playing in the cafeteria and basketball in the big gym. There will also be pizza, candy, chips and soda ($1 each)! No dates or prom dresses required!

The social is for Otto students ONLY. Regular dress code is still in effect. We look forward to seeing you there!

Congratulations to the winners of the OMS Speeling Bee that was held yesterday. 3rd Place 6th grader Rajiv Swamy, 2nd Place 7th grader Maya Mallya and 1st Place 8th grader Mohit Gupta.All three winners will continue on to the district-wide Spelling Bee.

If you are 7th or 8th grader and you are an officer of a curricular or noncurricular club, and wish to volunteer to be an introductory speaker, then please secure a form from the principal’s office.
Forms will be available through Thursday, January 9 and must be returned to the front office by the end of the school day on January 9. See an administrator if you have any questions.

The talent show is next week. If you did not get the form that was due before break, then make sure you get one from Mrs. Aspden TODAY. Auditions are today and Thursday.

The Spelling Bee is next week on January 14th. If you have not picked up a word list from the Library then be sure to do so. Remember that winners of the OMS spelling be will go on to compete at the district level.
All library books checked out last semester before the break are DUE TODAY! Make sure you get your library books turned in, as soon as possible, by placing them in the library book drop. Ms. McCreary will be looking for your book this week and YOU, if it is overdue! Thank you for your help getting all books in on time!

Do you hear buzzing? The Otto Middle School Spelling Bee is approaching in January. Don’t forget to drop by the Library and pick up a word study list before the holidays begin. That way, you can practice your spelling before the big spelling bee on Tuesday, January 14th. Save the date. Winners will go on to compete at the district level.
Plano Academic and Creative Education or PACE provides services for academically gifted and/or talented students in grades K-12 who have demonstrated a need for advanced, differentiated instruction. Students interested in testing for PACE Humanities for the next school year need to complete a PACE referral packet. These packets are due back to Mrs. Miller by January 15th, 2014 to be eligible for spring testing. Packets may be located at the PISD website under the parents section in advanced academics.
Students can also pick up a packet from Mrs. Miller (G106) if they do not have access to print their own.
Here is some info about Titanic auditions. If you are signed up to audition today, then Mrs. Aspden will see you today after school. If you were scheduled to audition yesterday – then your auditions have been moved to tomorrow, Wednesday.

Remember that the Titanic:Tragedy and Trial meeting is tomorrow. There is a before and after school meeting in Mrs. Aspden’s room. See you there.
Also remember that spelling bee practice word lists are now available in the library. The spelling bee isn’t until Januray, but it’s never too early to start practicing.
Remember that the Plano Santa’s food drive is taking place until next Tuesday. The Bobcat class that has the highest percentage of cans per student will win an Ice Cream Party. AND if we meet our school goal of 3000 cans, then we get a DJ party at all 3 lunches. That averages to 3 cans per student.

Here are today’s totals… in 1st place Mr. Truitt with 180 cans. In 2nd place we’ve got Mrs. Attuquayetio with 16 cans. And rounding out the top 3, in 3rd place we have Orchestra with 14 cans.

If you missed it last night, then be sure to see it tonight. Into the Woods Jr is a fantastic musical showcasing the talents 42 students. Show time is at 6:30 and admission is $5. The show is an hour long, so if you are being dropped off, then make sure you have a ride at 7:30.

It’s finally here! The musical is tonight and tomorrow night. That show is at 6:30, it last’s and hour and admission is $5.

The OMS Geography Bee will be held next week. The Grade Level Rounds will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. 8th Grade on Monday Truitt’s. 6th Grade on Tuesday in Miller’s room and 7th Grade in Wednesday in Khan’s room.
Football season is sadly over. What a great season for the 7th and 8th grade football teams.The 8th grade b team finished the season 2 and 7. With a close loss to Robinson 14 to 6. The A team won the final game in blowout fashion, 37 to 0. This A team only won 1 game last year, and dramatically improved over one year. They ended this season with 6 wins, 2 losses and a tie….the BEST RECORD in Otto football history!!! Congratulations to all!

The musical is this week! Into the Woods Jr will be performed this Thursday and Friday at 6:30. The show is an hour long. Admission is $5.

The OMS Geography Bee will be held next week. The Grade Level Rounds will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The 8th Grade Round will be Monday, Nov. 11th in Mr. Truitt’s room, C102. Students—the lost and found rack has been moved to the rotunda. Please look for missing clothing items, umbrellas and lunch boxes there. Ms. Schreiner keeps all small items and valuables in the front office. When sorting through lost and found, please leave the rack and clothes in bags the way you find them.

Today is the deadline to purchase a yearbook at the lowest price of the year. Anyone who orders before the day’s end will receive a free coupon book. Journalism students will get these delivered to you next week.You can order at JostensYearbooks.com or you may return your order form, with payment, to the box in the front office.

Next Thursday and Friday is the musical Into the Woods Jr. Into the Woods takes the stories of Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Little Red, and Rapunzel and ties them all together. The show will begin at 6:30 and lasts for about an hour. Admission is $5.

If you signed up for the 7th/8th grade basketball tryouts, please go by Coach Foster’s and Coach Baker’s room to see your tryout number. You must put the number on the front/back of your white t-shirt. Tryouts will be next Wednesday-Friday after school in the big gym starting at 3:45. Your friends and family will not be allowed in the gym.

Attention all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade future basketball players. Plano East will be holding an “East Side Madness” today at 6:30 in their gym. You will see slam dunks and have an opportunity to meet the boys/girls basketball team. Admission is $1 for students and $2 for adults. Remember to wear your Otto shirt to show support
