The teens of the Community Forge Youth Council are celebrating Black History Month by reflecting on people who inspire them -- and they want to share their thoughts with you!

From Bryan Finch:
Roberto Clemente Walker was the youngest of seven children born to Don Melchor Clemente and Luisa Walker. He was born on August 18, 1934 in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Except for 1968, Clemente batted over .300 and was named to the National League All-Star team each year during the 1960s. Clemente was involved in charity work in Latin American and Caribbean countries during the off-seasons. He often delivered baseball equipment and food to those in need. Tragically, he died in a plane crash on December 31, 1972, at the age of 38 while en route to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.

From Taelyn Johnson:
The person I pick is Janet E. Bashen. She made a program for unemployed people. She has helped a lot of people to get new jobs. She was the first African-American woman to earn a web-based software patent.

From Josiah Russell:
Esther Luntadila was born at a young age and fell in love with art throughout her art life. How did she get into art? Well, she was inspired by her brother, who also drew, and wanted to copy and walk in his footsteps. Later in her life, she started to practice, practice and practice even more to perfect her art. She then began to do digital art in 2015. Her art revolves around black women and black beauty and becoming one of the top black digital artists. Also, I think it is pretty awesome because there’s not too many black artists in the world creating more fictional characters ☺

From Charles Johnson:
The person that I chose for Black History Month is Chadwick Boseman because he inspired a lot of people to keep pushing forward and be determined to face every challenge. His acting was another thing that inspired me because of all the other black people that he played. I appreciated the hard work he did and showing that you should never give up on what you want to do.
