We are so excited to welcome Ms. Victoria Peña as a new junior high English teacher this year!
My name is Ms. Pena and I grew up in the valley. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor’s in Secondary Education English and a minor in Japanese. I’m looking forward to my first year teaching with you all!
In my free time, I like to play various video games (currently Roblox), binge-watch shows (from anime to supernatural), and try out new foods.
We are so excited to welcome Ms. Elizabeth Davidson as our new ballroom teacher this year. While she has already been teaching at the Gateway campus, this year she will be joining us at Laveen as well!
This is Ms. Davidson’s fifth year with Heritage Academy and she has loved teaching not only the amazing scholars but also some of their parents and other staff members how to dance! She came to Heritage after 6 years of professionally teaching, competing, and managing at a studio where she taught students ranging from 6 to 93 years old. She has four Ballroom Teaching Certifications in American Smooth, Rhythm, and social dance styles. Ms. Davidson has been dancing most of her life, but originally attended the University of Arizona for Biomedical Engineering. It wasn’t until after college that she became a professional Ballroom Dance instructor and competitor, and in teaching has found she has a passion for helping others find confidence and strength in themselves. She loves going out social dancing, yoga, being involved with her neighborhood, and traveling whenever possible.
We are excited to introduce Mrs. Lisa Vizcarra as a new Spanish teacher this year!
My name is Mrs. Vizcarra and I am excited to teach Spanish I at Heritage Academy. I have a Bachelors degree in social work from Arizona State University. I have been working in the school environment for over 13 years as a prevention specialist, a substitute, and a teacher. I enjoy painting, reading, and spending time with my family. My son graduated from HAL this year, and my daughter will be a junior this upcoming school year.

Our Story
As a parent, you worry about a lot of things, especially when it comes to your kids going to a big high school. Will they have friends? Will they make good grades? Will they have good teachers? Will they have opportunities? Will they be bullied? Will others care of take the time to see them like you already see them? A child who, given the right support is on the verge of discovering their future potential. You want them to feel valued and to excel academically and socially. You want them to be challenged and to build character that will propel them into a brighter future. Simply, you want them to be happy.Unfortunately, most high schools promise school spirit and pep rallies, but when the Friday night lights dim, kids face the reality that they are just another student in a sea of students who worry more about getting through a day without bullies, drugs, bad language, disrespect and peer pressure than grades. It’s understandable that learning takes a back seat when teachers and principals have to spend more time with discipline issues rather than with helping families. Despite all of these problems, you may be more disposed to suffer this reality believing there isn’t’ another way. However, there is a better way. Heritage Academy, a tuition-free school, is one of the first charter schools in Arizona and provides a safe environment across three campuses in Mesa, Queen Creek, and Laveen. Heritage is a school where your child will receive individual and well-rounded instruction to flourish academically and emotionally. That’s because Heritage Academy first instills into the minds and hearts of today’s youth the enduring values and principles taught by America’s Founding Fathers and Mothers like liberty and freedom that foster respect, hard work, honesty, personal responsibility, friendship, hope and courage. This foundation coupled with the more intimate setting of a smaller campus and class sizes create a special place where your child will be among friends who are kind, teachers who can and want to give them personal attention and a principal and staff that listens to your needs and works with you.Heritage’s unique set-up provides scholars so much opportunity. The A/B block schedule Monday through Thursday enables your child to take 8 classes per semester so they can take more core academic as well as extracurricular classes. Nowhere else will scholars have so much opportunity to participate, be engaged, and develop into future leaders. And, because the environment caters to more learning and academic rigor, our scholars have some of the highest test scores and college acceptances in the state. All this while having no school on Fridays! At Heritage, you are more than a student. You become a scholar, a leaders, a hero who is ready to stand tall and step into a brighter future that you’ve chosen with the help of our entire educational family who not only sees your potential but has the desire to help you reach it.
