For our August Art Studio project each class created their own Cityscape. The children and teachers worked together to come up with a concept and decide which materials to use to create their masterpiece. Each class created a unique Cityscape using a variety of materials such as paint, wood shaped, plastic bowls, and different types of paper. While working on the project the children learned about working cooperatively to complete a task. The finished pieces were debuted at our end of Summer Potluck and will be on display in our front entryway.

Water Play in the City! We are beating the heat this summer with water play. Our Toddlers and Twos classes are enjoying their water play time on the roof deck. There is a sprinkler set up for the children to explore as well as a water table for those who don’t want to get too wet. As part of our Preschool/K-prep Summer Adventure Camp the children go to Sister Cities Park and explore the splash pad. After a short walk there the children enjoy the water with their friends and teachers. While these times are a great way to keep cool the children are also learning as they play and explore. What better way to explore the properties of water than to be right in it?!

On June 8th we celebrated the Graduation of our Kindergarten Prep class. It was a simple ceremony where each child was recognized with a Character Award that was chosen to reflect their specific traits. We then read the book What do You do with an Idea? by Kobi Yamada. In this book we learn that the best thing to do with an idea is to use it to change the world. Once the children received their Certificates of Graduation we all celebrated with pizza and cake. Many of the children have been with BHP since they were infants, and it is amazing to see how much they have grown over the years. We are honored to have been a part of their growth and development, and look forward to what the future will bring for each child.

It was a pleasure to host our annual Thanksgiving Potluck. The families brought in sharing dishes for everyone to enjoy. This was an opportunity for families old and new to come together and enjoy an afternoon together. During this time we débuted our Fall Art Show, “Butterfly Garden.” Each class made unique butterfly masterpieces. The children had photographs of real butterflies to use as a reference while working on their projects. These pieces of art were “auctioned” off to families for donation of $1 to the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children. This year we collected $78 for the Foundation! Thank you to all of our families for their generous donations. This was a great time of family, food, and fun.

Curriculum Night was a chance for families to come in and experience the routines and activities of their child's classroom. The teachers planned activities for the parents to participate in with assistance from their children. They also had the opportunity to talk about the World at Their Fingertips curriculum and how it is implemented throughout each day at school.

On August 25th we had our end of Summer Luau Potluck. This event was the first for some of our infant and toddler families here at BHP. It was the last event for some of our K-Prep families who are moving on to Elementary school. We were so glad to have this time to celebrate everyone's time here at BHP. Thank you to all of the families for bringing in great food and spending the afternoon working on sand art with the children. We look forward to more family events throughout the year!

Our Kindergarten Prep Class of 2016 celebrated their graduation. The children decorated their caps and wore them proudly. After a brief ceremony where they received their graduation certificates and silly awards the graduates enjoyed refreshments with their families.
