SENIOR GRADUATION CEREMONY INFORMATION
2021 Graduation Ceremony
Date: Sunday, June 13
Where: Lake Region Union High School
Details: Outdoors on Softball Field. Event will be undercover of tents. Note: Event will follow the Vermont Forward Roadmap to Reopening gatherings and events rules. Being that the event will be outdoors, we are anticipating that students will not have limitations on the number of guests so long as we are following the Roadmap rules. There will be limited family member seats (maybe 2 or 3) available under the main tent, with additional open air seating available for other guests on the grounds (We are working on securing some smaller tents for additional guests to be under cover as well if they so choose.)
More details and information to come.
Just in from our Superintendent:
Due to heavy snow forecast for tomorrow all OCSU schools will be closed on Tuesday, February 16th. This includes schools in Albany, Barton, Brownington, Glover, Irasburg, Orleans, Lake Region, and the preschools in both Albany and at the COFEC building. Again, all OCSU schools are closed tomorrow. Thank-you.
[01/28/21] FYI for our Career Center students. I have just been notified that NCCC will be fully remote Thursday (1/28) and Friday (1/29). Their system has many sick bus drivers and they are not able to fully run all of their routes. Log in to your Google Classrooms tomorrow and Friday for your NCCC classes. A school messenger call has also gone out with this information.
Pleased to report that the internet issues have been solved and we will be back to our normal hybrid schedule tomorrow (Thursday)...grades 9 & 10 in-person and 11 & 12 remote.
Many thanks to our in-house tech team (Wildbranch) and Consolidated Communications working together to find the source of the problem.
[01/19/21] LRUHS will be full-remote for all grade levels tomorrow (Wednesday) 1/20/21, due to persistent internet connectivity problems within the building. We are planning on the normal in-person schedule for Thursday and Friday.
A reminder that Friday (1/15/21) is a non-student day, which means a change in our in-person instructional calendar this week:
WEEK #8: (1/11 - 1/15)
January 11 Monday Grade 9 & Grade 10 (In-Person) L
January 12 Tuesday Grade 11 & Grade 12 (In-Person) R
January 13 Wednesday Grade 9 & Grade 10 (In-Person) R
January 14 Thursday (ER) Grade 11 & Grade 12 (In-Person) L

Good Afternoon Lake Region Families,
This is principal Andre Messier touching base at the end of our break to first wish you all a Happy New Year and to provide a reminder that Term 2 classes resume tomorrow, Monday, January 4th. For the foreseeable future, LRUHS will continue with its hybrid schedule with Grade 9/10 students in-person tomorrow and grade 11/12 students accessing their Lake Region classes remotely. Full-remote students are to continue logging-in to their classes as has been the practice. Also, Career Center classes also resume tomorrow with a normal bus transportation schedule.
Term 2 will continue for the next four weeks through to the end of January. Please be aware that the middle two weeks in January are shorter student weeks by one day, which will mean that there will be adjustments to some of our usual grade-level in-person / remote days that we normally follow during the five day weeks. The Term 2 calendar has been mailed to all of your homes and it is also posted on the school website. 20-21 Term 2 Daily Calendar
Also, with the turn of the calendar, many of the seniors will begin to look towards June and graduation along with other end-of-year events. If the pandemic has shown us anything during the past year, it is that the future is unpredictable and patience is a must, especially when dealing with things that we do not control. With vaccines in place there is light at the end of the tunnel and with that comes hope that we will be able to have some sense of normalcy by the end of the school year. Fingers crossed.
Once again, Happy New Year everyone!
Freshman Step-Up Day on Thursday, September 3. Please check the LRUHS website (www.lruhs.org ) for the bus routes. School messenger call going out tonight with more specific details. Looking forward to meeting our Class of 2024 Thursday!!!

Text of School Messenger Call that went out tonight:
Hello Lake Region Families,
This is the voice of Principal Andre Messier and I am calling to provide you with two pieces of updated information regarding the opening of school.
1) Guidance has nearly completed the class schedules and it appears that we are on schedule to mail out student schedules in our annual summer mailing at some point next week (First week of August). Note that students can go into powerschool currently and see their schedules, however, those may change as we continue to fine-tune conflicts.
2) The second information point is in regards to the opening dates for school. In an earlier mailing, we provided you all with the schedule for the opening weeks of school. You may have heard earlier this week, the Governor's announcement that he was moving back the start of schools in Vermont to September 8. As we were ready to roll, this obviously means that the opening calendar information that was sent to you will have to be adjusted. The OCSU administrative team will be meeting next week to readjust our opening schedule and as soon as that has been solidified, we will communicate to families our revised start of school dates.
We have also been informed that schools are going to be receiving revised Health and Safety Guidelines from the State in the very near future, which may also impact all of the planning that we have been doing this summer.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding that our plans are having to be fluid with new information and directives that come to us from the Agency of Education and the State of Vermont.
Take care and I am really looking forward to seeing you all soon.
We continue to plan for the upcoming school year and we are beginning to delve into the finer details. Decision points thus far: 1) We will begin the school year in a hybrid model (2 days in-person & 3 days remote for a regular five day week). Current capacity guidelines will limit us to around 50%, which will mean 2 grades in the building/day. 2) We will operate in a 4x4 block style for this school year. Four classes per half-year. Note: The guidance department has almost completed the upload of the revamped class schedule into the system...Expect student schedules in early August.)
The link below provides you access to a letter mailed to student homes on July 16 and it contains a draft of the daily bell schedule for the 4x4 system, as well as the attendance schedule for the first three weeks of the school year.
Please remember that all plans are subject to change if our guidance from the State changes.
Much more information and details to follow. Thank you!

SCHOLARSHIP QUESTION: Several people have inquired about the scholarships traditionally awarded at graduation. Over $100,000 in local scholarship money is generally awarded at the LRUHS graduation ceremony. The scholarship packets submitted by the seniors have been distributed to all of the local groups and organizations who select the recipients for their respective scholarships. We anticipate that these organizations will continue to make these awards at our graduation ceremony as normal.
IF there is no graduation ceremony, the Lake Region guidance department will work with the organizations to facilitate the distribution of the awards, either by providing addresses and contact information to the donors so that they can reach out to the individual awardees of their respective scholarships or by sending awards to the students directly from the guidance office.

The LR Yearbook crew (Mrs. Mess, Braydon, Hunter, Joel, Jack, Jordyn, Lily & Brooke) FINISHED the yearbook on the last day before the closure and got it submitted to the publishers. Note: The publisher is currently shut down for the time-being, but our yearbook is near the top of their que for production because of when it was submitted. Awesome work Team!! #RollRangers
