UNC School of the Arts is looking for liberal arts faculty with interdisciplinary interests.
The Division of Liberal Arts at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) invites candidates with an interdisciplinary background to apply for one of multiple positions to begin on August 1, 2019. Candidates interested in joining a vibrant, creative and thoughtful faculty devoted to undergraduate teaching and learning beyond traditional boundaries should apply.
UNCSA is part of the seventeen-campus University of North Carolina system. The undergraduate division of UNCSA offers professional training for artists in a four-year program that culminates in a BFA or BM degree. The Division of Liberal Arts (DLA) offers a curriculum that contributes to the cultural and intellectual growth of students majoring in Design & Production, Dance, Filmmaking, Music, and Drama.
In the DLA, we offer core courses such as “On Being a Contemporary Artist,” “Self, Society and Cosmos” and “Paths to the Present”, to provide students with the opportunity to enhance their perspectives on themselves as individuals and their relation to diverse historical and cultural contexts, and to develop the habits of mind and communication skills essential to becoming tomorrow’s influential, socially engaged arts professionals. We design courses of special relevance to students of the arts, including electives such as “The Biology of Movement,” “Contemporary Female Playwrights in the Era,” “Writing About Other People-_the Interview,” “Philosophy of Art,” and “How to Read a Film.” We have diverse specialties in history, the humanities, foreign languages, literature, media studies, philosophy, psychology and the natural sciences, but we all contribute to the general education program and carry a 4/4 teaching load (including core courses).
