Your input matters. Within the next week or two, we will be announcing our Q3 offerings to start in 2024. We've noticed that a lot of families joined our community group this school year, but we've not enjoyed the success of welcoming any new students to our classes or field trips or in private 1-n-1 tutoring. What is it you'd like to see in the New Year? Note: We are accepting both legacy and EMA students. The GIF is is our curiosity face. We are curious to know what you want to see.

Something the founder of Caravan Learning and I were discussing this past week has really been resonating, and I wanted to share it. Conflict! If we can accept that conflict is one of the basic conditions of the universe (along with the basic game of the universe being hide-n-seek), we can learn to stop trying to avoid it at all costs. As Carl Jung so aptly described in his works, whatever we resist in ourselves will manifest in the World as events. So maybe one of the basic problems with governments past, present, and future is the inability to address conflict at the level of the self and in interpersonal relationships. As such, there are no inner road maps for the outer conflicts that come up. To build upon this idea, the mythologist Michael Meade describes that everyone has an original wound. He goes on to say that the shape of our unique genius (from the word genie as in light and gifts) hides behind that wound. He says anyone who denies their wound inevitably is passing it off to others to carry for him/her. In my opinion, this is the behind our basic mistrust of politicians and billionaires. By and large, they deny they've ever had any wounds. It's part of the illusion of 'success' and 'power' they so carefully curate. Their wounds are passed on for the rest of us to carry. It creates division. It creates imbalances in resources, health, power, and so on. It doesn't make for erudite decision making in my humble opinion. It is part and parcel with marginalization of groups of people and other living beings on this planet we call home. That said, while one of our missions is nature immersion - we also use those opportunities to allow space for conflicts between kids to arise, develop, and resolve. We facilitate only when necessary and not out of a fast paced necessity to move kids along to their next class or 20 minute lunch break or to the principal's office. What we provide is a vehicle for self-development and actualization through the simple process of giving space for challenges to happen. All of our group programs act as such a vehicle. The vehicle deliberately takes its time so we can sightsee, experience chaos, make observations, and more. The vehicle shouldn't be mistaken for the journey of course, and we are so honored to be on this journey with you and your children.

Our first nature exploration and Braiding Sweetgrass book study of 2023 was a swimming success!

A Note From Our Director, Mark J DeMaio:

The anniversary of my mom's transition just came and went. I commemorated it by watching The Beatles' Get Back documentary. If you know my mom and I, the Beatles were something we could truly enjoy together. Anyway, it's hard to put into perspective that it's been over two years. Though I've wanted to do more in the death positivity movement and more towards being a death doula, the immediacy of finances and family have kept me extremely occupied. For a myriad of reasons I've just left my full time position at the private school I was at. This has left me a bit more time to focus on the work that truly matters to me. While Caravan Learning is still keeping me quite occupied, I am adding in moments to build upon the goals I made the weeks after my mom left this mortal coil. Part of this mission involves the purchase of a new ceremonial instrument to be used in my death doula work. It's not a small investment, but I expect it will prove entirely worth it. I'm not asking for any donations, but now would be a good time to support the mission by purchasing my 5 Star Rated book directly from me (just PM me). I have it on sale for just $10 directly from me or you can get the digital version right now at Amazon on sale for $8.49. I'll also be giving away more books to hospice and other death workers, so please know your support goes to help myself and Caravan Learning continue our charitable community work. Our next free public event is the Oviedo Drum Circle coming up on June 24th. I'll have books there for sale if you are interested. All the best.

We are considering doing movie theater rentals in the future for private screenings of films for Caravan Learning's families and friends. We believe this can bring the cost down considerably per family, and we can get accommodations such as reduced volume for our sensory sensitive friends.

There are two kinds of intelligence: one acquired,
as a child in school memorizes facts and concepts
from books and from what the teacher says,
collecting information from the traditional sciences
as well as from the new sciences.

With such intelligence you rise in the world.
You get ranked ahead or behind others
in regard to your competence in retaining
information. You stroll with this intelligence
in and out of fields of knowledge, getting always more
marks on your preserving tablets.

There is another kind of tablet, one
already completed and preserved inside you.
A spring overflowing its springbox. A freshness
in the center of the chest. This other intelligence
does not turn yellow or stagnate. It’s fluid,
and it doesn’t move from outside to inside
through conduits of plumbing-learning.

This second knowing is a fountainhead
from within you, moving out.

Would anyone be interested in a teen (or close to teen) summer book club? The book would be read at home, and we'd meet once a week on zoom for discussion and activities.

The Story

R School was the solution for parents seeking the highest quality education for their children in a progressive, pioneering environment. The first of its kind in Central Florida, R School delivered an adaptable, accessible educational alternative to public, private, and home school environments. Offering a flexible fee structure and schedule, R School was affordable and provided equitable access for children from varying socio-economic and religious backgrounds, and with different abilities and learning styles.

Due to the pandemic of 2020, R School was forced to close permanently.

But when a plant unexpectedly sprouts in your garden, it is sometimes called a volunteer or a gift from the heavens. Like this, Caravan Learning sprouted from the fertile soul that R School had to leave behind. It is our hope that the community will see Caravan Learning as a gift and further engage in the evolution of educating young people in Central Florida and expanded audiences via online resources.

Caravan Learning is a Florida not-for-profit providing independent-minded, community-spirited educational alternatives for children in grades K-8. Caravan learning admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other programs.

We have programs in Central Florida and offerings online via Zoom.
