Leadership Charleston Graduation 2018 06/18/2018

On Thursday, June 14, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce celebrated the graduation of the Leadership Charleston Class of 2018. For more than 44 years, Leadership Charleston has been identifying and developing leaders in our community, producing over 2000 graduates that have become leaders in local, regional and global industries, legislative appointments and civic stewardship.

On Thursday, June 14, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce celebrated the graduation of the Leadership Charleston Class of 2018. For more than 44 years, Leadership Charleston has been identifying and developing leaders in our community, producing over 2000 graduates that have become leaders in local, regional and global industries, legislative appointments and civic stewardship.


Thank you 2018 Chamber Chairman of the Board, Mark Lattanzio, who spoke to Leadership Discovery class yesterday.

Mark is currently President & CEO of the Charleston Region for SunTrust and has over 30 years of experience in the banking industry.

He shared some great insight with the class, from professional principals and information about our region to leadership advice.

Mark’s Leadership Advice:
- Find something you enjoy doing (the business will follow)
- Listening skills are paramount to quality leadership
- Learn to accept well-intentioned criticism

TEALS | Computer Science in Every High School

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Are you or someone in your company an expert in computer science?

TEALS (Technology Education and Literacy in Schools) helps high schools throughout the US build and grow sustainable computer science programs. In its proven program, TEALS pairs trained computer science professionals from across the technology industry with classroom teachers to team-teach computer science. Industry volunteers and partner teachers create a ripple effect, impacting the students they teach, and the many students who will study CS in the future.

Nationally TEALS started in one high school in 2009 and this year will be in 225 high schools in 25 states.
Locally TEALS started last August with one pilot AP class at West Ashley. This coming August there will be 2 classes at West Ashley and 1 at Hanahan High School.

Volunteers would be on a team with 2-3 volunteers paired with a teacher. The class will meet from 7:15 – 8:45 a.m. every other day. We will have volunteer training at the Chamber on June 26. Contact Alex or Robin Willis ([email protected]) for more information on this opportunity.


Last night we wrapped up the 2017 Leadership Discovery program with a business etiquette dinner. Thank you to Laura Alberts Tasteful Options for providing us with a wonderful location and meal. Cant wait to start again in 2018!
