For 15+ years, Kids Teeth has supported the Charleston Walk For Autism. This past weekend was the #CharlestonVirtualWalkForAutism2021 and we walked to support all our patients and their families. If you weren't able to walk with us virtually this past weekend, please consider donating for the 1 in 54 people living with autism or for the children on our doorstep that NEED therapies their families can’t afford.

Why do I walk for autism?
Because i love music, the music of angels, not just lyrics and melody,

the most beautiful “ music “ I’ve heard was Alex saying “ momma” the first time ( he was 13 months old ) on Mothers day , then nothing after that for months ( he was diagnosed 3 months later as autistic)

the music of hearing him walking around the house calling for Nina, ( learning later that was his word for banana)

the music of a non- verbal child squealing in delight over an accomplishment

The awe inspiring music I heard at the PURE concert on 3 April, not only just the bands but the music of OUR autistic angels as they performed ( Gillian, feel free to add your videos )

here is one of my autistic Angel from 3 years ago of his performance at his middle school talent contest

thats one of many reasons I walk for autism

Happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸

Happy Fourth of July from my handsome “boogie woogie beatbox boy.”

Diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder at 20 months old, MUSIC is my son’s LIFE!

Just a laidback wish for a wonderful day — a celebration of free speech (or songs, in this case) and love. America the Beautiful!

It was a beautiful afternoon walking in memory of Beth Bonacci. A great day to walk in solidarity for #AutismAcceptance! (At the request of Beth’s son, Bennett, we wore green and our new #CharlestonWalkForAutism t-shirts!) 🧩🧩🧩🧩

A HUGE thank you to high-school sophomore, Alex Friess, for organizing this personal birthday fundraiser. He just met his goal of $1250 raised for Charleston Walk for Autism. I’m in awe! Collectively, Alex and his father, David, have raised more than $2500?!?! So thankful! 🙏

Today is a joyous day in that we all virtually unite to walk for the special people we love with autism. To share their beauty. And I know this is what Beth Bonacci would have wanted?! Joy. However, there’s an added touch of somberness on this Sunday morning too...

Because today at noon we meet on the steps of her family church to walk in her honor, to walk in her memory.

Beth Bonacci was a tireless autism advocate, wife to Joe, and mother to Bennett. She was also a most-passionate supporter of Charleston Walk For Autism. (I’d go so far as to say she’s the lady that most inspired me to commit my energy to WFA-Charleston.) And while we were both busy, and didn’t know each other as well as I would have liked... her light was so, so terribly bright. People use the phrase, “She lit up every room.” Well, in this instance, Beth really did.

So today, I must thank with my whole heart the Bonacci family for their continued support of Charleston Walk for Autism, for the large community of friends (near and far) that have sent donations in her honor, and to our generous corporate sponsor, United Bank (at which Joe is the Senior Vice President of Human Resources).

With much love and infinite respect, we walk today for Beth! You can too... 💙🧩🙏🌟🌈

Little less than six weeks ago, Alicia Duncan of Grace Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation, received news that both of her four-year-old twin boys, Jordan and Carson, have autism.

Personally speaking, I’ll never forget those early days when my son was first diagnosed?! (I was a mess!) So when Alicia and I connected three weeks ago, I was in total and complete awe of her composure. Her sense of calm, almost? And today, I’d like to share their story, and also thank Grace Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation for their sponsorship of Charleston Walk for Autism.

I truly believe in life, that there’s no such thing as a coincidence. And I know the timing of our encounter was meant to be. There’s also something to be said about our community, the innate connection we feel for parents and families experiencing a struggle similar to our own. Immediately, I felt the urge to reach through the phone and hug her tightly. (Can you relate?)

I was also struck by her openness and willingness to share. For at the time of my son’s diagnosis, I was in a state of denial?!

I asked Alicia, “What were some of the symptoms that led you and your husband to believe your boys might have an autism spectrum disorder?”

She replied, “Jordan and Carson’s lack of speech, difficulty with transitions throughout the day, and their diagnoses of overall Global Developmental Delay... we just knew there was something more specific than that. And as time passed, they both showed more and more signs that led us to get them tested. With just our overall awareness of Autism, we believed it was a possibility.”

There is a sense of peace when suspicions are confirmed, and I know Alicia and her lovely family will thrive. Thank you for your candor and grace in sharing!

And for those that don’t know, Grace Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation is a privately-owned, local PT clinic with two office locations: one in Summerville and North Charleston. Their primary mission “is to provide you with effective and high-quality physical therapy treatment. No matter the type of pain you are experiencing, our goal is to reduce and eventually eliminate discomfort to enhance your overall physical function.”

Many, many thanks to the Duncan family and Grace Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation!

Matthew Campbell - An Inspiration to ALL! 🌟

Local news anchor and reporter, Raphael James of Live 5 News said it best, “Matthew Campbell, composing greatness right in front of us... THAT is a gift!”

And boy was it?! Matthew Campbell, a 17-year-old high school junior, confidently dug deep and GAVE so much to everyone at The Pure Concert Festival this past weekend. (All spontaneous improvisation!) In his own words...

“I was diagnosed with autism at the humble age of 4. I have an undying passion for music, as well as a heart for creativity. I hope to be an inspiration to others.”

Midway through Matthew’s reflectively beautiful, refreshingly honest performance you can hear my son whisper, “This is amazing, guys! Love you, I LOVE YOU!” My 11-year-old (with autism) doesn’t lie, folks. Those were the PURE emotions he felt listening to Matthew. In just four minutes, Matthew succeeded in capturing the true essence and mission of the day - Peace, Unity and Revival through Entertainment (P.U.R.E.)!

And Matthew, YES, you INSPIRE others! You inspire EVERYONE! Thank you for sharing your GIFT!🌟🌟🌟

Friends, it’s our goal to flood social media with posts of autism awareness, autism understanding, and more importantly, autism acceptance. We want to see your pictures, we want to hear WHO you walk for, and we want to answer your questions, “What don’t you know about autism?” 🧩

Many businesses in the Lowcountry share in this ideal, and today, I would like to thank Tri-County Therapy for their support and sponsorship. For those curious parents seeking help for their child with autism (or developmental delays), Tri-County Therapy provides speech, feeding, occupational, and physical therapy in the Charleston and Greenville, SC areas. 🌴

Public Relations Manager, Kayla Cole says, “Tri-County Therapy is proud to support the Charleston Walk for Autism each year, and their vision to provide autism education, research, and advocacy.” To take it one step further, she adds, “We share in their dedication to promote awareness and support for those living with autism in our communities. We celebrate coming together to raise funds and to enhance the lives of those we serve. We are passionate about the issues facing our families and we are committed to staying up-to-date with the latest practices.” ❤️

If you’re looking for “exceptional care” for your child, check out their website:

And many, many thanks Tri-County Therapy for your continued support of Charleston Walk for Autism!
