The Marshall-Carver Preparatory School's charter planning committee has decided to delay the school's opening date to August 2016. The delay is necessary to provide proper time for the construction of the school's new facilities.

We are committed to providing a first-class education for our students, and our facilities will reflect our vision and commitment to students and families in the Lowcountry region. Marshall-Carver will open for the 2016-2017 school year in August 2016.

We've received questions about our optional after-school and summer programs and the activities students will be able to take.

The after-school program will include arts activities (music, dance, theater), sports (such as basketball, soccer, and fitness classes), STEM activities, cooking classes, and career activities. A Homework Lab will be open during this time.

Our summer program will blend academic enrichment with career interests and summer fun. For example, students will be able to choose from Science & Math Camp, Law Camp, Arts Camp, and a sports-themed camp.

Please feel free to suggest activities for either program!

Today marks the 60th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that ended racial segregation in our country's schools.

Did you know that the Brown decision involved two decades of work to overturn the "separate but equal doctrine," and that Brown was not a single case, but five lawsuits against school districts in Kansas, South Carolina, Delaware, Virginia, and the District of Columbia?

One of our school's namesakes is Thurgood Marshall, the civil rights attorney who led the Brown team and went on to become the first African-American justice of the US Supreme Court.

Through our school, we hope to honor this legacy by ensuring that every child receives a high-quality education and a wealth of resources and support to realize their goals and dreams.

We're excited about the interest and positive feedback we've received about our school. We're meeting parents who want a high-quality education for their child, and community members who share our passion for helping children realize their goals and dreams.

We encourage you to submit a letter of interest if your child will be in grades K-5 for the 2015-2016 school year, or starting school in the near future. Your interest is not binding, and it will help us demonstrate support for our school.
