Iโm seeing that a friend and musical titan was lost today. Dan Miller was an incredible musician, educator, and person. As gregarious as he was generous with his time and knowledge, Dan was always a joy to hang with, and an inspiring musician to share a stage with. His knowledge of just about every recording youโve ever heard of was encyclopedic, and he always had interesting stories to share from his time touring the world with a whole bunch of incredible bands and musicians. I got to listen to him teach private trumpet lessons while working at Christman Music of Naples, and heโd regularly stop by the back of the shop for a chat before or after his lessons. I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him a few times, and his ebullience was infectious. Thanks to Dan Heck for taking the time to introduce us and hire me for some gigs with him. This one hurts, and Dan will be missed.

NY friends!
Please join me tomorrow (Tuesday) evening in Harlem for a performance with the Hellfighters II, led by my friend and wonderful musician Elijah Thomas. This ensemble is dedicated to the spirit of James Reese Europe and the 369th Infantry (Harlem Hellfighters) and we play music from across the African diaspora, including music from Mr. Europe, Duke, Sun Ra, and London-based band Kokoroko. The performance is outdoors (hooray for COVID safety!) at W 120th and Lenox, easily accessible from the 2/3 station stops at 125th or 116th. Two sets @5:30 and 7, with an open jam in between, so bring your horn if you are so inclined!

Many try to return to normal from COVID, but disabled people face a different reality
With COVID safety protocols rescinding around the country, many are returning to a sense of pre-pandemic normalcy. But disabled and immunocompromised people can't do so, and are being left behind.

The Stardust Memories Big Band outdoor concert series starts a little early this year! On Monday, December 7th, weโll be doing our first park concert (a holiday show!) at Cambier Park Downtown Naples, 7-9 pm. Unfortunately, due to weather our performance on Tuesday at Riverside Park in Bonita has been canceled, so if you were planning on coming out for that one, try to get to Cambier on Monday instead.
Please be advised that even though our performances are outdoors, the audience is expected to observe social distancing (there will be markers at the park) and wear masks. If the audience is non compliant, we may not be able to come back this season, so please, come prepared!
Hope to see you all there! โ๏ธ ๐ ๐โ๏ธ๐๐
