As we light the second candle on our menorahs, our hearts and minds are with the 100 hostages still held in darkness in Gaza. May the light from our menorahs radiate through the darkness and bring the safe return of our people to their loved ones this holiday season.

At Israel’s universities, students grapple with an uncertain future 12/19/2024

For the second consecutive year, Israeli students are grappling with balancing their studies with military service. With 30% of the 300,000 registered students for the 2024/25 academic year serving as IDF reservists, Israeli universities have committed to addressing the constant challenges that arise.

At University of Haifa, a number of important initiatives have been launched to provide emotional, financial, and academic assistance to its diverse student body, designed to enhance inclusivity and support for all community members, and ensure that the campus remains a beacon of tolerance and inclusion during these tense times.

“Despite the dark cloud of gloom hovering over our heads since Oct. 7, 2023, we’ll continue to be optimistic and pave the way for our students to create a brighter future for all,” said University of Haifa President, Prof. Gur Alroey.

Read more about these initiatives in The Jerusalem Post.

“The modern nation state in the Middle East has failed,” said Dr. Anan Wahabi, a lecturer in the School of Political Sciences at University of Haifa, following the fall of Assad in Syria. “All the different communities in Syria could not live together in one national state.”

"Over the last decade, Assad has gradually lost control of the Syrian state," he continued. "His Iranian backers were weakened by the war in Lebanon and the Israeli retaliations."

Support the University - ASUH 12/03/2024

When the new academic year started, Inbal Fishbein wasn’t in class. She was in the West Bank, in full military gear, far from her law and education studies at University of Haifa. Inbal has spent nearly 200 days on reserve duty since the war began—fighting on the front lines of Israel’s defense, leading 400 soldiers in the IDF’s Home Front Command.

Her story is far from unique. Inbal and countless other student reservists at the University of Haifa are fighting two wars: one for their country, and one for their futures. They are soldiers in the morning, students by night—drained, depleted, and often on the brink of giving up.

This , help students like Inbal who need your support now more than ever!
