2016-2017 Professional Learning for Teacher Effectiveness in the Arts 09/09/2016

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Friday, September 16, 2016

Dear Teachers,

The Office of Arts and Special Projects presents Professional Learning for Teachers of the Arts: Teacher Effectiveness. This three-day blended professional learning series provides arts teachers an opportunity to participate in content-specific and borough-based workshops. The focus of these sessions is to enhance best pedagogical practices in the arts setting by looking inward in order to grow professionally. This learning experience also leverages a social learning platform which promotes the importance of community, professional exchange and learning, as well as collaboration to enhance best practices to support positive results for students rooted in high-quality arts instruction. Please note that this series is separate from but aligns with the citywide PD sessions and the Arts Monday support.

Each full-day session concentrates on specific practices using language from the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, the Danielson Framework for Teaching, and the Specific Considerations. The trajectory for this year’s teacher effectiveness professional learning is:
 Session 1: The Arts Learning Classroom: Define it. Design it. Own it.
 Session 2: Student-Centered/Teacher-Facilitated Conversation in the Arts Setting
 Session 3: Assessment and Daily Reflection in the Arts: Taught it. Learned it?

The registrants of this professional learning series will have the opportunity to explore, examine, and implement quality teaching practices that promote positive results and fascinate students of the arts.

StarTchr is coming...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As a result of the Arts Office’s commitment to supporting the arts education community, a private social learning platform is being developed for arts educators - StarTchr. This exclusive resource uses technology to meet the everyday pedagogical needs of arts teachers by providing a PLACE: Professional Learning for the Arts Community to Empower—to collaborate innovatively. Teachers of dance, music, theater, and visual arts will have the opportunity to support one another and engage in peer dialogue and exchanges to deepen teaching practices rooted in The Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. To best support the enhancement of quality instructional practices, the PLACE also provides on-demand access to, and use of, pertinent digital resources to build capacity throughout the arts education community. This will ultimately equip arts teachers with the ability to articulate their craft to their non-arts colleagues.
