Happy Mother’s Day from all of us here at IvyWise! 💐 Families are at the heart of what we do, and today we celebrate the incredible mothers who play such a vital role in their children’s education. 🎓 Some of the supermoms on our team are even navigating the college admissions process themselves: both our Founder and CEO, Dr Kat Cohen, and our CMO have been touring colleges with their daughters over the past few months. 🏫 🔍

Here are some of our CMO’s personal tips for parents planning campus visits with their children:

✅ No website or brochure can replace experiencing a campus’s unique feel and personality firsthand, so if you can visit in-person, do it.

✅ Attend both the tour and info session for a comprehensive understanding and to demonstrate interest.

✅ Tours vary widely in what they cover. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek clarification.

✅ Encourage your child to reach out to coaches early if they’re interested in varsity sports. As a potential varsity athlete, we’re so glad my daughter reached out to coaches as early as she did. She started in ninth grade, so by the time we met with them, they felt like they already knew her!

✅ Ask your child “why?” I debriefed with my daughter after each visit and asked lots of “why” questions. By the end of our trip, we were on the same page with the school vibes: I felt like I really knew what she was looking for in the end.

❌ Don’t let your biases get in the way. There may be some schools you love that your child may not, and what’s important to you may not be important to them. But they’ll be spending the next four years of their life there, not you.

✅ It’s okay if it’s not love at first sight — focus on how your child feels when they step off campus.

✅ Be prepared for surprises — your child’s top schools may change after visits.

✅ Most importantly, have fun! While it can seem stressful and overwhelming, this is a special time for you to spend with your child. Enjoy every minute!

Thank you to all of the amazing mothers on our team, and a huge shout out to all of the wonderful mothers we work with every day — we see you, and we appreciate you! 🌹💌
