New York Choreographic Institute

The NYCI was founded in the Spring of 2000 by Irene Diamond and Peter Martins.

The Institute promotes the development of choreographers and dancers involved in classical choreography by providing opportunities to develop their talents.

Following its spring tradition, the New York Choreographic Institute united emerging choreographers with composers studying at Juilliard school and The School of American Ballet students to create three new works for the 2023 Spring Session.

Choreographers Preston Chamblee, Sophie LaPlane, and Mari Meade work with New York City Ballet members and advanced students from The School of American Ballet during the Fall 2018 Session of the New York Choreographic Institute. As in each Fall Session, the choreographers worked with graduates from NYU Tisch School of the Arts to create original costumes and lighting designs. This year's costume designers were Matthew Lott, Mariko Ohigashi, and Avery Reed. This year’s lighting designers were Ted Boyce-Smith, Amanda Clegg Lyon, and Christopher Thielking.

Drenched in Drama at Houston Ballet

The show must go on! While Houston recovers from the recent destruction of Hurricane Harvey, Houston Ballet will be relocating the beginning of their season to the Hobby Center. Their performance of “Poetry in Motion” featuring NYCI alum Christopher Wheeldon’s “Carousel (A Dance)” is now scheduled for October 26th & 27th.

Casting Announced For American Ballet Theatre's 2017 Fall Season

American Ballet Theatre's artistic director, Kevin McKenzie announced the casting for the 2017/18 season this past week. The season will include the following alumni work:

- Jessica Lang - "Her Notes" & World Premiere
- Benjamin Millipied - World Premiere
- Alexei Ratmansky - "Serenade after Plato's Symposium" & World Premiere
- Liam Scarlett - "Elegy pas de deux" (excerpt from "With a Chance of Rain")
- Christopher Wheeldon - "Thirteen Divisions"

Off-White and Monse Will Costume the New York City Ballet's Fall Gala

The New York City Ballet Fall Gala is coming up quickly and we couldn't be more excited about this year's program! Four NYCI Alumni will be choreographing new work for the event happening on September 28th. Each choreographer will be paired with one or more fashion designers to create new costumes for these World Premieres.

The program includes:

•World Premiere ballet by Principal Dancer Lauren Lovette in partnership with Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim of MONSE and Oscar de la Renta

•World Premiere ballet by Resident Choreographer Justin Peck with costumes by Tsumori Chisato

•World Premiere ballet by recent School of American Ballet alumna and former New York Choreographic Institute participant Gianna Reisen in collaboration with Virgil Abloh of Off-White
