Here is the original flyer from 2007 announcing the gyms launch in St. Mary’s playground. handed these out at the Carroll Gardens farmers market and put some up in nearby businesses hoping someone would see them and check us out. No one ever showed up because of these flyers and it was the last time we put any money into advertising. Luckily, people found us through .com and continue to join CFSBK through informal referrals from current members and searching for online. Our philosophy has been to focus on the quality of what we do inside our walls and let interested people find us based on the reputation we’ve built.

Ever since first walked through CFSBK’s doors in 2017, she’s brought her energy, dedication, and a whole lot of strength – making our community all the better for it. Originally from Seattle, she first found CrossFit in 2016 while searching for a way to push her limits. A well-timed invite from a longtime member (and Strong Sets host!) Maria Heinegg brought her to CFSBK, and she’s been a cornerstone of our gym fam ever since.
A trombonist and singer of “buoyant charm” (as accurately described by Nate Chinen, The New York Times), Emily brings that same spirit to the gym – whether she’s powering through a workout, sharing her love of music, or perfecting the art of napping and popcorn-eating (her – and this author’s – dream AMRAP). CFSBK has been her second home through major life changes; in return, she’s made it a better place with her presence.
Emily, we’re so lucky to have you in our community – congratulations on being our February Member of the Month! Read the full interview by on CFSBK.com

Originally from Bangor, Maine, and raised in Cranston, Rhode Island, journey has taken him coast-to-coast – living in Seattle, Houston, San Francisco, and Washington, DC – before landing in Brooklyn in 2021. Seth joined CrossFit South Brooklyn in early 2022 after trying bouldering for a bit and has been a consistent presence ever since, showing up to class 3–5 times a week (when the stars align!).
What keeps him coming back? “The coaches and the community! This place is AMAZING.” Seth has made lasting friendships at the gym and loves the blend of challenging workouts and expert coaching. He credits CFSBK with helping him stay strong and healthy, and, as he puts it, “aging gracefully.” Not to mention, he’s still hitting PRs and has some very enthusiastic support from his wife!

From crushing a 330-pound back squat (a remarkable increase from his starting 115 pounds), Keith’s dedication to his fitness is truly inspiring. A cornerstone of our gym, he’s always present at events and eager to support his fellow members, both inside and outside of SBK. Read the full interview by on CFSBK.com link in bio. Congrats Keith!

Today is CFSBK’s 17-year anniversary! Since its inception, this gym has been a labor of love, with the intention of building world-class community and empowering people to be fit—all while being kind of weird and fun about it. Thank you SO much to everyone who has kept this going for so long. We are the sum of our parts and everyone who has ever walked through our doors should take some credit in making this possible. If CFSBK has played a positive role in your life, please let us know in the comments!
