We’re excited to launch the Water Map New Orleans / Water Map Bulbancha project.

Visit the project website to learn about this multimedia platform for exploring the topic of water in relation to our past, present, and future. Visit the “Water Map Stories” section for writing and videos that cover topics ranging from Bulbancha and crawfish to Bayou St. John to trauma, resistance, and transformation. Next month, we will distribute our first paper maps, while working towards launching the digital version of the map in fall 2023.

Stay tuned for more stories, community events, and opportunities to contribute. We can’t wait to hear what you think!

And if you’re able, please consider supporting the project financially so we can distribute this map at no cost throughout the region so that all residents have access to basic water systems information, as well as stories, artwork, readings, projects, and programs that support learning, dialogue, and collective stewardship of the region’s water resources.

We're thankful to Nola Gulf South, National Performance Network, Antenna, Greater New Orleans Foundation, and so many other people for their support in getting this project off the ground.

In fall 2020, the Water Leaders Institute brought together environmental leaders from across New Orleans to talk about different projects and initiatives and the theme of environmental stewardship. This video features voices from , a group that has been powerful in shaping public awareness, dialog, and action on Lincoln Beach, a long-neglected and historically significant New Orleans waterfront. Check out our YouTube page for the full video!

Congrats to , , and for their recent presentation to the New Orleans City Council on Lincoln Beach and for receiving a proclamation honoring their tireless advocacy and stewardship.

This video combines Zoom footage with historic images and present-day materials to communicate key aspects of ongoing efforts to connect to the past and to determine the future of Lincoln Beach. Our goal is to highlight a powerful example of environmental stewardship and leadership, and to support broader dialog on the role of communities and community leaders in shaping the future of this region’s waterfronts and waterways. The video concludes with discussion questions that community groups and educators can use to foster dialogue on environmental stewardship and water.
