Slowing Down in the New Year -
Happy New Year! This 50th year of life for me I'm making very different decisions for myself. I've found myself slowing down. I've given myself a lot of permission this last year to not always have to be "productive." I like getting things done, all the time, but this last year I am finding it ok if things don't get done. It is very necessary when having to make huge decisions about navigating our safety ALL THE TIME.
So what have I been doing you ask?

Thank you to my friend Tamara who wrote this beautiful review and shared such an adorable story to go with it. I took a few screenshots because I can't figure out how to post those stories here. But you can check them out on my own instagram account. https://www.instagram.com/fullofjoyogi/ They are so cute!
"Oh my goodness, this book is so thoughtful! I confess that I know very little about yoga, but my two older children have practiced it in school or at extracurricular activities for years, and they respond beautifully to it. While also teaching me a thing or two!
I love the age-appropriateness of this book, with its easy to understand language, and relevant illustrations, but it goes beyond that. I think of it as the perfect yoga book for kids in this age range, and maybe even a little older. This book makes yoga fun and beneficial, by breaking it into 30 fun activities for mindfulness, creativity, strength building, and calming (wonderful for near bedtime). I also love that there are affirmations with every activity, because I use affirmations for confidence and anxiety management and these are awesome! So there are poses, games, and affirmations. And the book is broken down into simple sections, so that the poses about mindfulness, calming, focus, etc. all go together. No doubt, the benefits of this book are too numerous to mention. I keep it on the coffee table so that visiting loved ones can see it."

"I have everything I need to grow."
I love this affirmation. We need to dig deep inside to find what we need to grow. And dig deep is what I did to write this book!
One of my favorite games in my book is "Wings in the Garden" because kids just LOVE butterfly pose and the sweet song I sing with it. I learned this song over 20 years ago from my very first kids yoga training with Shakta Kaur Kalsa of Radiant Child Yoga. It also lends itself to expand upon with all the flying creatures that live in a garden (and my garden is my fave place).
Here is a sneak peak photo from the video to go with this game as well as the page with this fun little sequence.
I'd love to know which game your kids really enjoy!

I was so honored to have Shari Vilchez-Blatt of Karma Kids Yoga endorse my book! Shari and I go way back as friends & colleagues in the kids yoga biz. We'd get to see each other to play every year at the Kids Yoga Conferences- which I cannot wait to have back in person again one day.
“Lani's joy and expertise in children's yoga and mindfulness shine through in this adorable book for children! Kids will love the easy-to-follow instructions, beautiful illustrations, and how they feel after each game. They'll love this book for years!” —Shari Vilchez-Blatt, creator of Karma Kids Yoga
Thank you Shari for your endless support always and your kind words! I love working beside you in this biz of ours.

What a gorgeous 🍁fall weekend🍁 the colors everywhere were spectacular. It's one of those weekends that ends with a full & happy ❤️.
Our Westchester weekend began with a super fun hike with my bro and kiddos and their first #geocache find. Such a fun one, easy and a box of goodies including a trackable! Next was a sleepover with our besties with a campfire and lots of Mario party fun.
The weekend finished with a ton of yard work & bulb planting on this beautiful Sunday and an epic sunset to finish it off - at like 4:30pm 🙄 (thank you daylight savings).
Happy Friday! Just thought I'd share some of my favorite kids yoga books out there right now in case you were looking for a gift for your favorite teacher or kiddo. We know that teachers and kids are struggling right now and the more tools we can give them the better. Here are some of my favorite kids yoga teachers and their books!

One of the most challenging aspects of writing this book was to effectively capture the way I teach onto a page. I have very specific sequences I've been teaching for almost 20 years! For those of you who know my teaching, I started teaching the mountain & volcano back in San Francisco in 2004. I teach that game/activity to kids from ages 2-12 and they all love it. Teachers too! Trying to capture the essence of it on paper was hard.
I can't wait for you to see the videos I created to go with my favorite games from the book!

I began practicing Iyengar Yoga in 1995, around the same time I started my teaching career in Boston. I found it to be the perfect antidote to daily stress, while also alleviating back pain from a previous injury. The practice helped me focus on my daily work with the children and calmed my mind in the evening while studying. In 1997, I obtained a masters in Early Childhood Education from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.
