We had another successful training at the Florida Charter Institute on The Science of Reading. Thrilled to have some of our Babcock teachers here.

What an amazing day we had yesterday! It was so exciting to see all of the students returning to our new location in Palm Beach! It took a village to get everything done- but we got it done. Welcoming the students and seeing their smiles was worth all of the effort it took to get to this day.

This is an exciting week for our client! The first day of school is August 10th! We will be heading down to Key West tomorrow to be there for the big day!

The College of the Florida Keys introduces its newest baccalaureate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Exceptional Student Education (BS-ESE), this upcoming fall semester. The BS-ESE provides an opportunity for aspiring educators to become Florida certified teachers ready to fill much-needed teacher positions.

The Director role is not just about celebrating our organization’s successes. We are so excited to announce Dr. Wendy McPherson as the first Principal of CFK Academy, the College’s new collegiate charter high school. She will start full-time with the College in July after completing a nine-year tenure as the Principal of Marathon High School in June.

Dr. McPherson began her 30-plus year career as a teacher at Sigsbee Elementary for 11 years before working as a District Administrator and English/Language Arts Coordinator. She then served as an Assistant Principal at Sugarloaf School and Marathon High School before becoming Principal of Marathon High School. Among numerous accolades, Dr. McPherson was named Principal of the Year twice by the Monroe County School District, in 2016 and 2022. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction from University of West Florida, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Southeastern University.

CFK Academy, which opens in August, is a tuition-free charter high school authorized by the Monroe County School District. With focus on college and career readiness, the curriculum centers on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and Career Technical Education (CTE). The school will use Project-Based Learning (PBL) experiences that provide students with hands-on engagement in the learning process to develop skills, knowledge, and character. CFK Academy students are encouraged to earn college credit—at no cost to the student—through the College’s Dual Enrollment program in classes conveniently located on the same campus as the high school. Motivated students can graduate with a high school diploma as well as an associate degree, certificate, and/or industry certification.

Applications for the 2023- 24 school year are available on the CFK website at CFK.edu/CFKAcademy. CFK Academy will start with grades nine through 11 in its inaugural year and will add grade 12 in the 2024- 25 school year.

Today we ended our whirlwind tour of Florida at Babcock Neighborhood School. All of the teachers started the day with an amazing breakfast and an inspiring speech from the schools founder Syd Kitson. We had a media tour and a tour for the builders at Babcock Ranch. It is exciting to see a vision come to life over the past 7.5 years. We now have a K-5 and 6-12 school at Babcock Ranch. Time to meet the students on Monday! .

We love watching all of the teachers show up to school on their first day! This school is especially near and dear to our hearts. The Learning Center in Palm Beach serves students with Autism. These are true rock stars! I asked them all to share their “wake up song”. We played Family Feud to test the teachers knowledge on processes and procedures. It was another fantastic first day!

We were excited to attend the building dedication for one of our clients. Ina A. Colen Academy is truly an amazing school that is focused on the whole child and project based learning. Sharp minds and kind hearts is their motto and we can’t wait to see the first group of students begin their journey at IACA.

Collaborative Educational Network has been busy this week! Last night the Lee County School Board unanimously approved our charter application for our client Team Success! It is always exciting to have all board members vote “yes” on something we’ve spent hundreds of hours working on. Feeling excited!

Today was an exciting day in Tampa for Dr. Kiran C. Patel Elementary School. We attended the official ribbon cutting ceremony and it was wonderful seeing all of the families, teachers, and students wandering the halls of their new school. Congratulations Pioneers!

We can’t wait until the Grand Opening on August 5th of Babcock High School! This is my favorite time of year.

We just returned from Key West and our meeting with the Monroe County School Board. We are excited for our client, The College of the Florida Keys and the progress that has been made on the new high school building. It’s looking good!
