Proud Papa Moment!

I have been so fortunate to speak to thousands of kids about weather over my almost 36 years here at WCBD News 2!

Today’s Weather101 at Primrose School of Mount Pleasant was one of my favorite talks ever! It’s not everyday you get to talk to your grandson, who sat so quietly on the front row the entire time!

Papa was so proud of you Rowe!

With a bit of magic and a sprinkle of seeds, pumpkins grew even quicker than weeds! 🎃

At Primrose schools around the country, children turned the Primrose Patch garden into a Magical Pumpkin Patch. They planted magic seeds that grew into big pumpkins overnight just like the characters in the Primrose Harmony & Heart book "Superheroes Save the Day" they read in class. See for yourself!

With fall in full swing, it’s a great time to get outside with your child and explore the wonders of nature. 🍂 This month in Primrose classrooms, we kicked off our Sensing Outdoors Unit that helps children learn about the world around them. Bring the lesson home with this fun and easy leafy animal craft. It encourages your little one’s creativity as you use sticks, leaves and a little imagination to create birds, fish, butterflies and more. Read our blog to get started! https://bit.ly/3ZIn1Lh

Decorations are showing up and pumpkin spice is in the air! While this time of year can be exciting for a child, it can also be a little scary, especially for little ones under age 5. Check out these tips that may help your child (and you) make the most out of the season.

🎃 Let Your Child Pick Their Costume: When a child gets to choose their Halloween costume, they're likely to be more comfortable and excited. Let them try their costume on a few days in advance to get comfortable so day-of can be focused on having fun!

👻 Establish Real vs. Make-Believe: Embrace their imagination while teaching them the difference between make-believe and reality. Help your little one understand that even dressed up in a costume, people are still the same as before. You can use the costume to build a story with your child: What would your character do? What would they say? Where would they go?

🔮 Answer Questions Honestly: There's a lot to be curious about this time of year. It’s common for children to see things that might be hard to understand at their age, such as haunted house decorations or a mummy costume. Answer their questions truthfully while reassuring them it's only pretend and sometimes people think it’s fun to be a little scared.

🪄 Keep Things Safe & Have Fun: There’s no reason why parties or events can’t take place during the day when they’ll be less scary and safer in terms of visibility and traffic. Let your child take the lead, whether that's visiting every house in the neighborhood or just walking down the street. The key is that they enjoy the fun and fantasy, without the fright.

Save these for later and share them with a friend!

At Primrose, who children become is as important as what they know, and that’s certainly the case with Beth C., who attended Primrose as a child and now works at Primrose School of Braselton. As an innately compassionate person who initially considered a career in veterinary medicine, she was surprised to find herself drawn to teaching, but now she can’t imagine doing anything else. As a new school year begins, young children often need some encouragement to get excited about the upcoming transition. Here are 5 ways you can help ease their transition and prepare your little one for the school year ahead!

👋 Tip #1: Say Goodbye & Hello: Waving goodbye to summer and hello to school will help your child with the change. Have an end-of-summer picnic and a first day back at school breakfast to start the year off on the right foot.

😄 Tip #2: Stay Positive: When it comes to preparing children for school, attitude is everything. Talk to your child about the fun they will have and how they'll see their school friends soon.

🛏 Tip #3: Practice Healthy Habits: It's important to get your child's sleeping and eating schedules back on track. The transition will be easier for them when they're well-rested and healthy.

🧑‍🎨 Tip #4: Make a Paper Chain: On the first day of school, create a paper chain with every "link" representing one day. Have your child draw what happened that day on each link. When the first month of school is over, you'll have a fun memory craft to decorate with.

📖 Tip #5: Read Together: Reading books with a return-to-school theme is a great way to get your child excited for school.

Share these tips with other parents that may need them too!
