Joshua Zola, Ph.D., NCSP, CBIS, LPES specializes in comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for Psychoeducational Evaluations and Educational Consultation
Operating as usual
Joshua Zola, Ph.D., NCSP, CBIS, LPES specializes in comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for school-age and college students. As well as being a Licensed Psycho-Educational Specialist, Dr. Zola is also a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and a Certified Brain Injury Specialist. As the former Coordinator of Psychological Services for Charleston County School District, he fully understands that never before have children, adolescents, and young adults in the education system been more challenged. High-stakes standardized testing and the one size fits all approach to education have caused some of the most resilient students to become stressed and/or fall behind.
The psychoeducational evaluation should be the crucial starting step when any student experiences significant academic or social-emotional issues.
Students who have disabilities are often overlooked, or given the incorrect interventions, causing them to fall further behind. Often times, intelligent students who may suffer from learning disorders such as dyslexia (reading), dyscalculia (math), and dysgraphia (writing) or social-emotional disorders such as ADHD, anxiety, and depression, can be missed or undiagnosed. Often, these students will be called “lazy” or “unmotivated” and both the children and the parents feel the stress of underachievement.
Dr. Zola offers comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations that not only determine if a student has a learning disorder or social-emotional disorder, but also by finding each child's unique strengths and weaknesses, we are able to match the interventions to the child's unique needs.
The comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation can be used to identify student’s strengths and weaknesses. Schools can use the evaluation to help determine if the student qualifies for Special Education services or Section 504 Plans. Doctors can use the evaluation to help determine the appropriateness of medication, counseling or therapy. High school students can use the evaluations to justify special accommodations on standardized tests such as the PSAT, SAT, and ACT. College students can use the evaluation to request accommodations or class substitution through the universities’ Student Disability Services Center.
