Brain News: Important Findings on ADHD and Lifespan
A new study from The British Journal of Psychiatry reveals that adults with ADHD face a significantly shorter life expectancy—7 years for men and 9 years for women compared to the general population. The study of 30,000 adults diagnosed with ADHD states that "[this] is likely caused by modifiable risk factors and unmet support and treatment needs in terms of both ADHD and co-occurring mental and physical health conditions." These findings highlight the urgent need for improved ADHD care and emphasize that ADHD isn’t just a childhood condition—it’s a lifelong challenge that requires continuous support.
At Brain Balance, we believe this is a critical conversation—not only about non-pharmacological interventions for ADHD and mental well-being, but also about understanding how ADHD presents differently across every stage of life and between women and men.
The brain can change at any age. By identifying ADHD symptoms across the lifespan and providing the right support, we aim to help individuals live healthier, more balanced lives.

The start of a new year is the perfect time to help your child reflect, grow, and set meaningful goals. Creating New Year's resolutions provides a fresh start and a framework for self-improvement, reflection, and growth! 🌟Check below for tips on how to guide your child through goal-setting and creating an action plan:
Begin With Self-Reflection: Ask your child to think about what went well and what could improve. Help them set specific goals tied to areas they want to grow, like staying organized or improving a school subject.
Create an Action Plan: Break the goal into smaller, actionable steps and map them out on a calendar. For example, if the goal is to keep their room tidy, weekly tasks like picking up toys or putting away laundry can help them stay on track.
Conference and Check-In: At the end of each month, review progress together. Let your child lead the conversation about what worked and what needs adjustment. If they achieved every benchmark, then celebrate! If they fell short, ask if they want to alter next month's action plan to better meet their needs.
By focusing on reflection, action, and accountability, you can help your child make real progress in the new year. Let’s make 2025 a year of growth and success for kids and parents. Follow along for more tips to help your child make meaningful progress this year!

If you and your ADHD child have made a resolution to get organized for the New Year, there are multiple ways to ensure you achieve your goal.✨ Here are some simple strategies to help your ADHD child stay on track:
Color-coding books and files: An easy way to help your child stay organized and keep school subject matter separate is to color code. This makes it simple for your child to pick out what is needed for school or home each day.
Drawing up a shared calendar: Crossing items that are successfully concluded off a calendar gives your child a great sense of satisfaction, which is a good method of encouragement.
Thinking of New Year organizational resolutions together: ADHD and resolutions to get organized may seem incompatible, but are possible. Work together when drawing up the pledges, and get plenty of input from your child.
