The Goddard School

The Goddard School uses the most current, academically endorsed methods to ensure that children have fun while learning the skills they need for long-term success in school and in life.

Our first Water Wednesday of the summer was a huge success! The children absolutely loved being able to enjoy the various water structures, and our teachers were excited to jump in on the fun too.

We have Water Wednesday every other Wednesday during the summer to ensure that the main focus is still on the curriculum and lesson plans curated by our teachers, but we know how important having a splashing good time is too!

This Sunday is Father's Day!! We hope our family of dads, step-dads, grandfathers, uncles and fathers-to-be have a wonderful day! How is your family planning to celebrate Father's Day?

Returning to highlight some more of our incredible team members! Ms. Zoe teaches in the toddler classroom, which is also known as the Australia classroom. Her positive attitude and great work ethic make her a vital part of our team. Welcome to the Goddard family Zoe!

We are so thankful to be a part of such a loving, welcoming community! We feel that all of the local residents and businesses are all part of the Goddard family. It is our mission to give back to this wonderful community in any ways that we can. Please give a huge welcome to the Gary family!

We have been receiving wonderful cards from the community to welcome the Gary Family into their new home in a few weeks!

Some of the well wishes came from a partnership with The Goddard School. Giving back to the local community is integral to the school philosophy. Every class from the toddlers through preschool made Welcome Home cards and drawings (or abstract scribbles!)

Andrew and Nathan Smith, the father-son owners of The Goddard School and Mary Freeman, the school’s Director shared with us
that volunteer projects with the students and their teachers are part of character development and life skills, two important parts of the Goddard curriculum. They feel it’s necessary for children to learn about the importance of giving back at a young age. Plus, we were told, the kids just had some extra fun with this art project knowing that their drawings will be given to a wonderful family who can display them in their home!

Community partners like The Goddard School help make our mission a success and we are so grateful for the outpouring of love the Gary Family will receive from all of the children and staff! ❤️

Ms. Mary and our children are making HOMEMADE, fresh-fruit popsicles for tomorrow’s Beat the Heat: Popsicle Party! The anticipation is already starting to build.

This week kicked off our first summer theme: Animal Adventures! From the bottom of the ocean to the sprawling landscape of Australia, animals are being incorporated into the daily curriculum for our children.

Give your child the opportunity, as often as possible, to make decisions for themselves. Don’t be afraid to let go of some of the rules. Save “No!” for when it really matters—in the case of safety or something you feel most strongly about.

Our Preschool and Pre-K classes are learning the importance of hand washing through a fun-filled science experiment! Definitely won’t be making grilled cheeses with this bread. #preschool #education #goddard #experiment #childcare #STEAM #education

Our children got to experience both “The Tortoise and the Hare” on Friday! After meeting our new friend, we practiced safe hand washing procedures and returned our new friend back to the comfort of his home.

(Gary was only a little jealous of the shared attention)

Children of all ages need their daily dose of Vitamin D (once sunscreen has been applied of course). Our infant friends enjoyed their adventure today! #preschool #infant #toddler #prek #goddard #funinthesun #education #curriculum

Get cooking! Including your child in the kitchen can encourage a more adventurous palate and healthy eating patterns. This is a great opportunity for children to express their creativity and independence; explore new foods; learn about nutrition; enhance their math, reading and science skills; and, most importantly, spend valuable quality time with mom, dad and siblings.

Our Get Set class started tending to their gardens today, and our Toddler class started painting their boxes! We see a lot of Green Thumbs and Picassos in this group.

Perfect for breakfast or shared as a snack, this delicious, hearty little recipe is sure to please! The full recipe is available here:

All of our children have gotten his or her picture taken with Flex the Giant Teddy Bear, and Gary wanted his turn too! #preschool #education #childcare #toddler #infant #flemishgiant #goddard

Our playgrounds are meant to be extensions of our classrooms. Every experience is an opportunity to learn, and the surrounding nature provides so many learning opportunities for our children!

Enjoy the health benefits of yoga with your children! Regular yoga practice helps children become more aware of their inner selves which, in turn, helps them learn to release anger, frustration and fears. The physical fitness and basic movement skills assist in children's spatial awareness, rhythm and creative expression. So stretch, relax and feel good!

While Memorial Day provides a welcome three-day weekend, it is a significant holiday in the United States. Whether you and your family spend the day BBQ'ing or just relaxing, don't forget to remember those who gave their lives for this great nation.

Today’s independent moments activity, “Handy Animals,” is perfect for children to engage with while parents focus on their tasks for the day. Turn an outline of a hand into a zany animal! Make more animals with outlines of your fingers or thumbprints.
You’ll need paper, crayons, markers and your imagination. Take a picture, and share it with family members and friends. Don’t forget to check out our blog for some more fun independent moments!

Our friends enjoyed a Memorial Day treat today. We prefaced the treat with a healthy snack, and the children loved celebrating the holiday!

Cheers to the Red, White, and Blue, and we hope everyone has a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend!

Ms. Darina has introduced Kindermusik ( to her students. Embracing learning through music and other arts is central to our STEAM-based curriculum.

Creative art motivates and engages children in learning, stimulates memory, facilitates understanding, enhances symbolic communication, promotes relationships and provides an avenue for building competence. Encourage art at home as a family activity. Get out the arts and crafts materials and create projects together, create drawings on the computer, or be creative with recycled materials. Your children learn a lot while you create wonderful family memories.

A HUGE thank you to Sara, Joe, and their wonderful children for treating our team to donuts and coffee from Joey Bag A Donuts this morning. We are so thankful for such loving families! (P.S. Mr. Nate may sneak a bite of each one)

When you need a moment or two and you’d like your child to do something fun, ask your child to try one of these instant playful learning activities.

Our Resource Room provides a great space for our children and team to both learn and have fun outside of the classroom. Be it turbulent weather outside or a desire to experience learning in a new environment, this is the place to be!

The video below shows some of our Goddard family utilizing our fully-interactive, 3D BEAM by EyeClick projector. The games are so much fun and educational!

Sun Safety (for Parents) - Nemours KidsHealth

With the beaches reopening and there being beautiful weather day after day, it is important to practice Sun Safety. We know how much fun it is to lie out and play around in the surf, but we want to make sure all of our families are staying safe. Please review the link below to learn more about sun safety and sunburn treatment. By teaching kids how to enjoy fun in the sun safely, parents can reduce their risk for developing skin cancer.

Our children and team watched as C-17s flew over the school in a salute to healthcare workers. The entire Goddard Family is thankful for the tireless and diligent efforts of our healthcare professionals.

Our friends in Ms. Darina’s Ireland-themed classroom utilized and practiced their sharing, painting, and cultural awareness skills in the creation of a hand-paint Ireland flag!

Hearing the chatter over lunch time is so much fun! By bringing lunches from home, our children are exposed to so many different foods and experiences.

From blackberries and strawberries to homemade penne pasta and Mac n Cheese, all of the food groups are being covered! (Just remember no nuts).

Does your toddler carry a favorite stuffed animal or blankie? Their attachment to this beloved object is normal—and can even be helpful! These “lovies” allow your little one to soothe him or herself in stressful moments and provide comfort or courage. The feeling of security is so important for a child during the transitional time of toddlerhood.

Learning shapes while painting and enjoying a beautiful, sunny day made for a very eventful day in the Toddler/Australia room.

Exposures to different cultures and experiences is central to the Goddard philosophy.

Ms. Hesley is our in-house Spanish expert, and she is introducing Spanish to our older friends. ¡Gracias Ms. Hesley!

We had such a great FIRST day welcoming all of our families to the school! #preschool #goddard #childcare #toddler #infant #education @ Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

As families schedules continue to be impacted, we’ve developed some independent moment activities that children can do on their own. Today’s activity is one of our favorites called “Does It Fly?”
Create something out of paper and cardboard that will fly! You can decorate it, too. Try making two things and testing which one flies the farthest. You’ll need paper, cardboard, crayons, markers and scissors. Check out more independent moments activities on our blog!

Happy #MothersDay to all of the inspiring, caring, beautiful, patient, wonderful, and thankless mothers who make each and every one of our days so special. We love and thank you all! #preschool #childcare #goddard #infant #toddler
